Radioguy1: D'aaa, can we except that?
- I don't try to talk too much about things I am unsure about. I don't shut up about the things I know. But you'll notice I haven't dabbled too much on football yet this season... Well, I went to Church yesterday (Suns-Cavs game) but I still caught some football action.
I wanted to be sure of what I believe.
This Things I Believe
- Adrian Peterson needs a nickname that is poetic and succinct. I watched one play of the Vikings game. I turned that game on yesterday right as they handed it off to him for a TD and he is what's-the-word? Awesome?
- I wish he didn't break that record yesterday. Now he's gonna get hyped for 2100 yards on the season. At least he didn't somersault into the end zone
- The Detroit Lions - finally a good story! Maybe the suicide rate in Michigan is a little lower for this month!
- A note to NFL teams that wear monochromatic uniforms (same color pants and jersey) - listen to what I'm saying to you - Stop it!
- Wanna experience life as an Arizona Cardinals fan? Next time you're just about to have sex, don't. And then do that over and over for 60 years or so.
- The Cardinals have a way of incessantly losing games they give away. It's uncanny. Every year I get to see 9-13 other NFL teams get a victory they don't deserve. It's not like the Cardinals ever truly suck. They don't get blown out often, they just can't win. Well, it's tough for any team to win when they mismanage the clock and give their timeouts away...
- Maybe Brett Favre did the right thing coming back for this season?
- Will the Dolphins win a game? In 1972, when the Dolphins went undefeated, the New England Patriots were 3-11.
- Will the Rams win a game? Probably not... Well, circle Dec 30th on your calendar.
- Wasn't Oakland supposed to be the worst team in football this year?
Trivia
Guess which team has the second longest winning streak right now? Answer at bottom.
I'm Gonna Find Me a Genie with a Magic Bikini
- Before going to the Suns-Cavs game on Sunday, I took my family to lunch at Friday's Front Row at Chase Field. We like to eat lunch there and the kids love Chase Field because you can see planes fly over when the roof is open. The grass has been reseeded and looks GREAT! Maybe it's because Eric Byrnes isn't out there killing all of the grass diving onto it!
- ARod might have been twisting the collective wrist of New York when Boras set up the $350 million bar. Anyone thinking he's gonna take less, prove his "committment to the game", show his love of the community and lead some other franchise to glory? I hope he goes to the N.L. (Cubs? Marlins? Dodgers? Mets?) so he can beat the Yankees in a World Series - that would provide great pleasure to me.
- A-Rod is more likely destined for Boston so we can hear all the people who have been bashing him, suddenly Bandwagon of LOVE ARod. He'll become the best Shortstop in the game again, play relaxed and crank out some more MVPs then when he clanks in the playoffs, Boston can complete it's "New York reassignment" surgery!!!
- If you attend a NASCAR event, doesn't that make you a redneck? What would it take to make you go to a NASCAR race? Never been to one, personally (I did drive by Dover Downs when they were racing once) but I'm thinking about it... (shifts shifty eyes in shifty manner)
- Anyone else miss baseball? Thanks to AFL, not me! Developmental Leagues are the Wave of the Future... literally!
- I'm gonna miss baseball in two weeks when Arizona Fall league is over! I'm gonna have to pay attention to my wife again...
- The Cavaliers suck. How a team I picked to go to the Finals last year turned into a crappy pile of turds without making any changes is mystifying. They really might not make the playoffs, but it is still the EAST...
- Will someone let me know when the NHL season starts?
- Yeah, I like to beat up bullies and commiserate with the small, weak and geeky but when I look at the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox on the top of the Sports World, I know the Rays time is coming. I remember the Patriots as the Clippers of the NFL and the Red Sox as the Cubs of the American League. Things do change...
Thanks, Jerry!
Phoenix is a sports town because of Jerry Colangelo.
It was Jerry Colangelo's induction into the Suns' Ring of Honor at US Airways Arena on Sunday. The Phoenix Suns home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers provided the backdrop for the halftime ceremony.
Among people making commemorative speeches were Play-by-Play announcer Al McCoy, former players Dan Majerle and Kevin Johnson and current head of Suns ownership group Robert Sarver.
Attendees of the event included family, former players, Basketball Hall of Famers and living legends as well as Charles Barkley.
The Suns won the game, of course.
Dry reporting is no fun
This is what I observed in LeBron James, seeing him for the first time in person:
WOW!
AMAZING ATHLETE!
LOOK AT HIS SIZE!
HE IS SO FLUID FOR BEING SO BIG!
I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AWESOME HE IS!
Ok, none of those things happened. I've seen many great players in my life and the greatest don't just get your attention, they command it.
LeBron doesn't command your attention. I wasn't watching him. I was wondering where Amare was (not dressed for the game) - he was getting early season rest after his hard summer and they wanted to get his consecutive games played streak off his mind. (Yep, I'm going with that.), I was watching Steve Nash starting to look a little less like the Steve Nash of last year and the year before, I was fearful of saying the wrong thing and starting a fight with the Grant Hill lovers behind me.
I wasn't staring at LeBron.
There's GREAT athletes and there's STARS. I like LeBron a lot! I think he's engaging and not-too-polished but real. Seems to have his isht together.
Maybe he's too young yet. Maybe he needs to win to get that swagger (Charles Barkley has "it" without rings...), but LeBron doesn't have it (at least not yet).
Kobe Bryant has it. Michael Jordan had it (even on the Wizards). Allen Iverson has it. Manute Bol even had it! Lauren Jackson has it, so does Diana Taurasi. There's a list a mile long.
But it's pretty clear LeBron is not in Tiger Woods' class and didn't deserve that "Who's Now" title way back then...
LeBron is kinda bow-legged too. Never noticed that on TV before.
LeBron had amazing plays. He is as good as advertised. It wasn't his best game, but he was dominant. LBJ is the passing big dude I've seen play (I never saw Magic in person). And they lost.
Maybe LeBron was having a bad aura night?
I saw MJ come to Phoenix with the Wizards and get blown out in the first half and we figured MJ wouldn't play the second half because he was so old and frail. But he played the whole game and commanded my attention even when his team was down. It was Michael!
I left last night's game with a couple minutes left. I hate leaving early.
But there was nothing left to watch. LeBron and the Cavs' hearts were already ripped out of the building. Plus my son (who was wearing his CAVS 23 jersey and waving a Suns flag) was assing out, indicating we had worn him out.
