This Has to Be Done-- Which Sport Produces the Best Overall "Athlete"-

15
Vote

by Jamel

So we learned one thing today- that Roc is an idiot and that he might be more of a douchebag than Jay Mariotti-

If you don't know what I"m referring to go to his stupid article today on why hockey is garbage

So I am leaving this as an open forum for all to fight and argue about their beloved sport and the athletes who play it-

I'm going on the record as saying that OVERALL I think hockey players are the most athletic-- I'm not talking about one position (like being a QB)- I'm talking about lumping ALL players, EVERY position, into that sport--  if we are talking about one position in a sport I'll go with being a QB in the NFL-

So go nuts and have fun-

Reason for hockey

I believe that each player has to require great strength, great stamina, great cardio, great hand-eye coordination, great foot-eye coordination, and they are tough as nails-- yup- if I was gay I'd want fack a hockey player-- what?!!!!- ha ha just seeing if you are going to read this-

Peace out

PS- Roc is a douchebag

I'm not an expert in every sport so I will just stick with the article I cited in Barron's unfortunate attempt at an article. Boxing is the most difficult. I agree with their approach and results.

Hockey second, football third.

I would go with Basketball, Strenth, endurance, a lot of skill, incredible vertical leap. I actually don't like basketball much, but watching a two way player like MJ, Kobe or LeBron is absolutely mesmorizing.

upon further review, I might have to put wrestling at the top (not WWF or WWE whatever it is called now).

It is not the most important atribute, but here are some of the improtant ones. Strength, quickness, intelligence, stamina, toughness. You have to be light on your feet, have great reaction times, a little knowledge of physics and leverage. It's the ultimate equal sport cause of the weight classes. One on one Balls to wall for 5 minutes, determining conclusively who the better athlete is.

Oh no, I'm here, no problem admitting it, its not what sport, its what position, and therefore, Football Cornerbacks are the best athletes ,speed - strength - finesse- vision- hands - coverage

For the sake of entertaining this thought I will counter with this: If cornerbacks are the most athletic in all of sports, why do they routinely get burnt by mediocre basketball players such as Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, or Antonio Gates? Those guys couldn't make it in basketball so they turned to football.

I am a basketball fan, and I would have to agree with the assessment, Steel Town. Given a choice, I think most football players (except maybe those with some tradition of football in their family, and even then, not all of them) would rather have been basketball players.

Ok...This is Barron (of Barron and The Roc)... Although I share in some of The Roc's feelings on Hockey, I DID NOT WRITE THIS ARTICLE. I'm not a fan of Hockey. Why, 3 reasons:

1. Lack of marketing their players and products. I still am looking for scores by Borque, Lemieux, Gilmore, and Gretzky. 2. They have too many teams. Why the hell is there a hockey team in Carolina or Florida??? Go back to the roots: Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo, Philly, NY for the U.S. teams (keep Denver...it's cold enough there). 3. It's not on TV!!!! If baseball where only shown on HGTV I wouldn't watch that. If the NBA were only on Bravo, done. Last time I checked, there is no NHL on unless you search it out. OLN, Versus, ESPN 17.5, Lifetime????

AGAIN...the article was written by ROC...this is Barron...www.inthemixlive.com

Those are more like reasons not to like Gary Bettman and the League officials not the sport itself. Most fans would agree with you.

I'd say as a swimmer, that Boxers and Swimmers are at the top. Swimming is such an insanely finesse sport, to the point where coaches and swimmers can spend months on end working on something that is nearly invisible to the untrained eye. Boxers have to be in peak condition all the time. I cannot understand how they are able to continue to do it for so long. I'd probably quit pretty quickly

I swam through high school and a little of college and will vouch for how difficult it is. Aside from the strength and endurance part of it, there is so much finesse and technique required. None of the motions required in swimming are natural and have to be learned. Refs will disqualify you for the littlest slips of technique. There's nothing worse that swimming a distance event all out and then finding out that you were disqualified your third lap in. Breath control is ridiculous.

I gotta go with basketball players. Especially with the new breed of younger stronger guys that lift weights. The Dwight Howards and Lebron James. They all stand at 6'6 or more weigh in at 240 plus pnds and are light on their feet and can move.

I would say as far as the most civilized sport it would be cricket, any sport where you take breaks for lunch and tea make it very civilized.

In 400 years of the sport, there isn't a single rule to ban a player from the field. Indeed, there has never been so much as a discussion to introduce such a thing. Cricket is easily the most gentlemanly sport in the world. People give themselves out without waiting for the umpires to give them out. This isn't really open for debate.

This was the very first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the title of this article. What the hell does that mean? Do you mean the most athletic (and by that do you mean a a balance of athleticism, or an abundance of one kind of athleticism) or do you mean the most talented athletes, or maybe the hardest working athletes, or the athletes that require the most training and development???

The point of this article was for people to debate what an "athlete" means to them- what attributes make up a great athlete- perhaps we should discuss this- then lump them all together and figure out which overall sport contains these attributes- since we are not experts at all of them- for example I know nothing about swimming- I thought people could share this and we could talk about it- So instead of focussing all your energy on the damn title why not start contributing and let the thread go whereever

YOu really have become a douchebag haven't you Manny? Simple suggestion- don't make comments like this. Learn that it is okay to not comment and leave alone articles you do not wish to contribute in-- this is why I wrote way back in the locker room why armchair will never get the recognition it deserves- you make it so some people fear writing articles or commenting-- comments like this serve no purpose- it ruins things-

I think most hockey players are more personable. Then the NFL players. I think the NBA players right now have a PR problem. With guys like Kobe demanding trades, or a Marbury saying he "HAS" to start because he has dirt on Isiah.

Best overall athletes would seem to mean the guys who perform a varierty of athletic skills at the highest levels, so I would answer triathalon or decathalon athletes.
