This Could Finally Be Their Year

Not the Patriots, not the Celtics, not the Seahawks, not any professional team. It's little Edmonds-Woodway High in Edmonds, WA. For the last 10 years, they had records of 1-9, 3-7, 2-8, rinse, wash, repeat. Coach John Gradwohl has resurrected this team in remarkable fashion. They went from a terrible football program, to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons, their only two in their history. In 2006, they won the WesCo regular season title, but the lack of true experience ended their run against Bothell High in the WIAA 4A semi-finals.
One season later, one more chance at redemption. Tonight, on a cold, icy night at the Tacoma Dome, this could be the year they make it to their first ever state finals.
A remarkable rally against Eastlake High at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, in which they converted on a last gasp 4th and 9, led them to another semi-final appearance after their 24-21 win. They can thank their star player, Tony Heard (junior). Heard has been a beast in the E-W Warriors running attack. With 24 carries, 150 yards, and 3 TD's against Eastlake (including the game winner), Heard has made himself known as one of the most feared running backs in all of Western Washington.
Lewis and Clark High, an unranked team, is the only thing standing in their way from making the state championship game. Not only does this make a statement about E-W, it also means that a school from Snohomish County (Made up of cities Lynnwood, Everett, Marysville, Mill Creek, Edmonds, and many more), can become the first team to make it to the title game since who knows when.
One team, one star, one more win, one more chance for the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors.
