There is this NBA Thingy Starting Soon

I'm sorry, but does anyone care? This league is left for dead. The season is 2 weeks away and has garnered no attention. It's the same teams winning over and over again, and it gets predictable. If it weren't for LeBron, the Spurs/Pistons would be an NBA Finals tradition.

Personally, I think it's because the players don't care. They play, collect their paychecks, and repeat the step. Very few players now in the NBA play for sport. It's the corruptness with the betting scandal and Tim Donaghy (why by the way, was quite confused when watching BET), the Isiah Thomas scandal, fights between owners and players, fights on court, Kobe not shutting the hell up, need I go on?

What happened to this league? It used to be glitz and glamour and fast paced action. But now, it's slow, attendance is dropping, the interest is gone. The playoffs last time were a farce, few of the games were thrillers, and the Spurs bored us all into watching The Sopranos. The rules are ridiculous, you hang on the rim after a dunk and it's a technical foul??? What kind of BS is that? It's become a travesty to watch any 2 teams not named the Mavs or the Suns play.

What happened to TV coverage? ESPN/ABC threw this down and stomped on it, not showing ONE nationally televised game without the need of cable until CHRISTMAS DAY!!! I miss Marv Albert and Mike Breen in their days on NBC. I miss the John Tesh music. The atmosphere is so dead now.

What happened to the All-Star Weekend? It's soooooo boring. The slam dunk contest (in which you get 2553 tries for 1 dunk) is bad, the 3 point shootout is so-so, the All-Star game itself is predictable because the West will beat the East 9 out of 10 times. The players must not care, because it's the same thing over and over again, and David Stern is doing nothing to stop it.

If the NBA does not watch itself, the falling profits and lack of exciting play, could result in fatal consequences for the league.

Your turn. Do you agree with me? Disagree? You have mixed feelings?

The funny thing is that the league is actually awash with talent, but there's none of the total dominance we're used to seeing from the top players and teams. People might blame expansions, and that may be part of it, so it will take some time to have deeper teams across the board.

Also, I think the NFL has been so dominant the last few weeks, with the Peyton/Brady watch, that the NBA has been kicked to the side. Hence, Kobe-watch started, and even though there's really no story there, the fact that they're talking it up so much might be indicative of the desire to get interest back in the NBA.

I think if a dominant team advances itself, especially a team like the Celtics who are 3-0 in the pre-season, you'll see interest pick up again.

This is similar to the MLB problem. The big cities (NY, LA, Boston, Chicago) have mediocre teams. Ratings will suffer as a result. But the NBA is not going anywhere, of that you can be assured.

I should add that I do agree with your All-Star point though, because I was at the slam dunk contest and it was not the most interesting. They may need to spruce that up, but I don't think that means the league is in trouble.

It's only the pre-season...we'll see when the season is underway. One thing the league should be worried about though is the East coast. The KG and Allen trade moved some talent that way but there will be need a lot more transfer if the East coast is to continue following the NBA. It gets depressing when your team gets demolished every time they play a West coast team...then again the Lakers get demolished by both coast teams :(.
