strut.
The slightly sunburned, but immensely satisfied Widening Geier was pleased to have witnessed a gradual righting of the universe. 3 and 4 games sets in July should not be overblown, but the races in the AL East and Central just got a whole lot cloudier in the first series after the Break. I was in the great Stadium on Saturday to see the Yankees stomp on Mark Buhrle(sp?) and had to listen to the other 2 games on the beach with intermittent trips into the ocean to avoid melting (100+ in NYC). At the same time, the Oakland A's were scoring 27 runs (sandwiched around a Schilling shut-out) in a 4 game tilt with the Red Sox. The weekend began with the Yankees trailing by 3.5 games in the AL East, and 6 in what is currently the wild-card race. Now? A flat-footed tie in the division, rendering the Wild Card discussion moot for the time being.
It appears that Johnson, Mussina, and Wright may actually be, dare I say it, a dangerous front 3? And all that Wild card out of the Central talk? Not so fast.
