There's No Crying in Baseball

by BigPPup

Stop it seriously I am sick of the moaning and all the crying and bitching.  Baseball is not dead, it’s not going anywhere and for all intents and purposes the game is the exact same today as it was yesterday and as it was 10 years ago.  Barry Bonds did not ruin your precious little game.

All summer I have read the Barry Bonds bashing (that’s fine) however if I open up the Chair or turn on my television and see one more melodramatic story about how Bonds has tainted the game, and the with the record the sport will never be the same, I swear I will puke.

Base is not a pure sport.  It never has been it never will be.  Before Barry and steroids there was Pete Rose and gambling, before that there was Curt Flood taking the entire league to the Supreme Court, before that there were anti-trust cases, and before that the game was segregated.  Baseball is an America’s pastime and much like America it has a dirty seedy underbelly, that we conveniently forget about when it suits our purposes.

Bottom line is, we all saw history last night, like it or hate it.  There is no guarantee that you will ever see something of that magnitude happen again.  So instead of crying about it, try to find some pleasure and some joy in what just happened.

The season will continue to go on, the playoffs will take place and we will crown a World Series Champion.  So sit back and enjoy and stop with all the damn dramatics.  Cycling, now there’s a sport that’s in danger of losing everything, not baseball.

I'm not a yankees fan or a sox fan...I'm a phillies fan....and a baseball fan...and for what its worth, it doesn't get much better than a yankees surge right now: If baseball needs anybody or anything right now (gulp), it needs the yankees...the baseball team...what's good for the yankees is good for baseball and the yankees not only fighting for a playoff spot, but dramatically attempting to reclaim the AL East is good for baseball...if there's a nice way to get over Barry bonds...this is certainly a good way...

The next time I hear that what's good for the Yankees is good for baseball, I'm going to puke. Seriously.

Hell yea, I'm nervous as hell for the next 20 days. Don't forget the Yanks square off against the Red Sox too during that stretch.

That's true insan, but yanks-sox games are different than the rest...they're a 2 game swing a piece and the energy is different...where are they playing and how many are left total (6?)

Alex is right...we're going to see a flood of basically 3 types of articles:

Barry did it, now get over it

Barry did it, now respect him

Barry did it, He's a douche and he ruined baseball

Oh you are definitly correct its summertime and its sports and it is the biggest number in sports so it is the biggest story that we have seen in any sport in years. I am just tired of people acting like its the gloom and doom

go to MLB.com and look at the little standings section...that's what I'm concentrating on now...NL west, NL Central and NL east are all tight...braves are working the mets over like ali and frazier and the phillies are sitting their buster douglas style...

Yankees are making a move in the east, the AL central is a 2 or 3 horse race and its possible only 1 team would make the playoffs and seattle is making it interesting out west...

If you ignore bonds, its a great time to be a baseball fan...well unless you're in pittsburgh, baltimore, washington or KC (etc)

On another note...Dan et al to a great job with the TPSradio connection. I spent a few hours overthere last night. I haven't forayed much into podcasts and net radio, but it was a lot of fun chatting with those guys and there's a few guys who know their shit (Bob Merc, who does a tuesday 5pm or 6pm show, i believe). Listening to the show and chatting online was a fun interact event that I believe I will return to, call and perhaps do my own eventually

the reason bonds did steroids is because i think he feelt he wassn't gettingenoough attention when sosa and maguire had their slug fest so with a mix of that and his trainer his carrer was ruined

I'd just like to point out - my Bonds "article" was made after just 2 articles of the same nature. And I considered it different enough in nature to not be a repeat. That's the advantage of waking up about five hours before all of you. :)
