Last night the yankees at orioles game three was suspended until July 27 when the O's nad yanks play again. It was 8-6, the yankees were ahead in the top of the eighth inning with the yanks up to bat. So, for now the yankees have narrowly escaped what could have been a sweep, if the O's offense came back out and finished off the series like they have been doing the two games before.
The first game, like I wrote before, I attended, and it ended with yankees reliever Scott Proctor walking O's catcher Ramon Hernandez, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning for a walk off walk.
Roger Clemens was looking for his 350th career win in game two, but came up short, as Baltimore's starter, struggling Erik Bedard, came up with his sixth win of the season. Bedard had some help from his offense, though, as the orioles scored 4 runs in the sixth highlighted by Aubrey Huff's three run home run, his fifth on the year. Baltimore's bullpen (Jamie Walker, and Chad Bradford) held on for the shut out after Bedard went seven innings, and gave up just two hits with one walk, and 8 strikeouts.
In game three Chien-Ming Wang pitched for the yankees, and Daniel Cabrera for the orioles. After three innings it was tied up at two. But in the fifth yankees took a one-run lead, and scored again in the top of the seventh. But, in the bottom of the seventh the orioles scored four runs, and had a 6-4 lead. But moments later, the umpires called for the tarps to be put on the field, and there was an eightteen minute rain delay. After eightteen minutes, they resumed play. But then again in the top of the eighth inning after the yankees matched the orioles four runs in the bottom of the seventh, and took an 8-6 lead, the umps, yet again called for the tarps. The o's third basemen, Melvin Mora, argued that they should've stopped play a couple batters earlier, because on Derek Jeter's two run single it was almost impossible to make a play on the ball, because of all the rain. But that didn't bother the umps. After an hour and twenty-five minute rain delay, the umps decided to suspend the game, and resume the next time the two play eachother, which is July 27 in Baltimore again. Personally, I think the umps should've just called the game, and count it as a game, because it is considered a complete game, because they played more than 5 complete innings. But, whatever, maybe the O's will end up sweeping them anyway, who knows.
