The tailgate party elevated the NFL

6
Vote

by Joliecat

Hello,

On this board and elsewhere it has been argued what is truly America's sport: baseball, football, basketball, NASCAR, the Kentucky Derby, or the Indy 500.

Here is a vote for football, which is the most popular sport in America today and will become even more popular in the future.  The tailgate party has greatly helped the autumn tradition.  It has helped elevate Arrowhead Stadium and the Denver stadium into some of the most raucous venues in sports even though the teams have been less than spectacular in recent years.

The NFL, with its "one game a week" schedule has succeeded in making every one of its games an "event," even a game between, say the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans.  Americans crave action and the NFL delivers!

Plus, here's one positive of global warming: no more "ice bowl" games in December!  I remember seeing a game the Raiders played against the Bengals last December, in Cincinnati, where the weather seemed almost tropical!

Tailgating is awesome for college football, too. I don't give a rat's butt about the Colorado/Colorado State game, but I want to go just so I can tailgate and sit around drinking at 9 a.m.

Tailgating is spectacular...whether it be a Penn State game against bumblefuck U. or Eagles and Cowboys...each game day is an event...

I happen to enjoy "Ice Bowls" as you call them. It is especially entertaining come mid to late December in Orchard Park, when the Miami Dolphins come to town to face the Bills. I remember several times in the early 90s when Marino was still the QB there when you saw Miami/Buffalo in December and a wicked grin just played across my face.  :D
