The return of Jon Lester...

(Terre Haute, Indiana)--- It's Monday morning here in Terre Haute, Indiana and it's another beautiful day outside. The day is filled with anticipation, and optimism.

And honestly that's all it needs! I have posted and commented on Jon Lester's return seemingly all night long! His comeback to the Red Sox and Sox Nation has been followed almost Beckham-like since the beginning of the season...shoot even during the off season. But as we wait for 7:05pm (est) to roll around I am worried.

About what do you ask...how about the expectations that all of Red Sox Nation has of Mr. Lester. Let's get one thing up front and center. His return tonight may be the biggest accomplishment of his career up to this point. And as far as I am concerned that's all he needs to accomplish for 2007!

I know, I know we want him to pitch well, be the Lester who went 7-2 with a 4.76 ERA from last year and had 5 successful seasons in the minors to make him the prospect he is. But let's remember Jon was a rookie last year who got hot quick. And then was struck down by cancer.

So when he takes the mound tonight he is still a rookie by all accounts. He will still have rookie tendencies and mistakes. But that's OK, he's only 23 and working his way into a top of the line pitcher. Let's stand up and applaud his return, but let's not stunt his growth as a pitcher if he doesn't come out right away as a star. He will need time and he will need patience in his journey.

So please understand that although he is back his biggest and best accomplishment this year is just that, being back with the Boston Red Sox!

On another note something that went seemingly unnoticed was the fact that Tim Wakefield made his 500th appearance as a pitcher yesterday and is now just two wins away from 15o! Great Job Tim!

Looking forward to tonight!
