The Yankees aren't collapsing, the Red Sox are having a great year!

Some of the posts I've seen here seem to say that the Yanks are collapsing this year. Hey, they're still second in their division. Let's be honest, it's just that the Sox are doing very well. In a division where 11.5 games separate 2nd from last, the Red Sox are 7 games ahead of 2nd place. I don't think this is a terrible year for the Yanks, it's just not as good as I'd like.

And let's be honest, after how many straight divisional championships? Even in the great Casey Stengel years, the Yanks missed a couple of pennants. To lose one year isn't a disgrace, even if we Yankee fans aren't happy to see Boston above us at the moment. And there's half a season to go.

I don't even think the yankees are collapsing. I think they will play significantly better in the second half.

Wait...who said the yankees were collapsing...being a few games under .500 and between 10 and 15 games behind the division leader is "collapsed" ok. They're just picking it up now...putting the pieces back together...and the sox aren't helping themselves either...

Couple thinngs second in the AL East will not win the Wild Card this year. That being said. I think the Yanks are about to right the ship. If theycan find a way to get out of the 7th and8th inning they will be a huge push to win that division

You're right...the Yankees aren't collapsing, they've already collapsed...forget this recent push, the Sox have 15 games left against Tampa Bay and Cleveland is a better team...the Yanks are done

You're absolutely right. The Yankees definitely had a slow start but that was with all of the injuries and all that. Offense is still doing their thing, with Abreu and Cano having better halves, as well as Wang back from the DL. I was hoping that the season would have some sort of climax. I want it to be close, but not so close that the Yankees take it with them. :) I AM starting to get worried here. The Red Sox have lost 8 of 11, but I don't think they're gonna keep losing, with everyone doing pretty well. It's funny actually, because Manny and Ortiz, even Lugo are hitting really well. Lugo has now hit in 9 straight games, which is really. He is now hitting in the high .'20s or so, but the Sawx just can't get runners to score with runners on base, which is really killing them. That is what Youkilis does best, and right now he's in a minor slump (3 for 27, I believe)...

If I were a Sawx fan I'd be a little worried too...just because of the history and the natural hometown paranoia...but you have nothing to worry about dude

that's what I hear and I don't get it...they're PROFESSIONALS...they'll straighten out...Francona is a good manager and they have much better pitching than the Bronx Bombers...let it ride, Sox fans, everything will be just fine

Mmm...

Their outfield is actually pretty bad...Drew has been a stiff, Coco has been flapable and Manny...well he isn't manny right now...

Their pitching has a missing link, which schill might fill, but an you really depend on that? Lester and Clement are also possibilities, but nothing to depend on.

And francoma sucks...alright, I'm just letting you know he's easily the worst manager to win the series in the last 20 years...and i'm including Cito Gaston...

I think Drew is just having problems healing his hamstring. He's on and off. Coco is definitely coming back and is having an awesome week and a half. You're right, Manny isn't Manny right now, but everyone has their slumps. The outfield is indeed probably one of the weakest links in the Red Sox chain right now, but I gotta tell you, I think we're turning around. Manny is getting his power back, and keeps boosting up that AVG. Coco is doing tremendous as well. Drew? A lil iffy, but we can't have a Dream Team, now can we?

Oh JuT!!! Thank you!!! Thank you for being one of the few people I know who think that Terry Francona is a bad manager. When it comes to Manager of the Year, voters are absolutely right. Terry Francona's Red Sox weren't even his. Any manager would've won with them. And you know what? Even though he won the WS, he got only 2 points for the AL Manager of the Year that year, which was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS...

Last year, I must've turned the TV off about 10 times, at least because of Terry Francona's crap. BUT, he didn't have a bullpen, I understand, but leaving a starter there when he has a really high pitch count in the 7th inning in a close ballgame, there's no question that you should put ANY reliever in, and save the arm of one of your good arms (starter).

I gotta hand it to him this year though. He's got a better bullpen, which is why the Red Sox are doing so good, but look at Dice-K for example. Dice K is probably the second best pitcher that the Sawx have right now, right under Josh Beckett, who is having an incredible year. Everything is working for his favor now. He's got Okijima, Papelbon, and Delcarmen, plus some great starters and an offense that can get some runs to maintain leads.

But thanks JuT for pointing that out. But I think he's making a lot more decisions, UNLESS he's putting Javier Lopez or Romero on the mound in a one run ball game with Oki or Delcarmen fresh...

That was the blatantly obvious characteristc of the teams of Red Sox past...this is a different team this year, and they're gonna get Schilling back soon

Yankees seem to have had slow starts in some of the last few years and yet at the end of the season they are in first or second place. Seems like they lost five or six in a row to Red Sox one season not too long ago yet still finished in first or second place so I am the last to count them out of the race knowing their history. Their 1992 fourth place finish is the lowest they have finished since 1991 and since then they have either been first or second place every year. Their .516 winning percentage this season is the lowest they have had since 1992 when they had a .469 winning percentage.

Once you get past Ortiz, Ramirez and Youkilis the Red Sox don't scare anyone.

That's actually not true anymore. Pedroia is having an awesome year. He's leading the rookies in BA, and is 8th in the MLB with .320. Also, Lugo is definitely coming back and you can see that. So is Coco Crisp, and JD Drew with the hamstring problems, but I think he's coming back slowly. You've also got Lowell who has had a tremendous year thus far in the season: .306 AVG, 14 HRs, 66 RBIs, .862 OPS. Not bad at all, especially for a #6 hitter.

I know, Ortiz and Manny have been swinging pretty well as of late, and have gotten their power swings back, but it seems like Youkilis is having a mini slump. He's 3-27 or something, which is probably why he has been given the day off in tonight's game.

Was speaking of teams fearing hitters who are capable of hitting home runs out of park. Lowell hits home runs but doesn't really scare teams like Manny and Ortiz. Pedroia is having super season and has a shot at Rookie of the Year.
