The Yankees Are Just Fine

Right now, I'm watching my Boston Red Sox get their butts handed to them by the New York Yankees, and all this stuff people have been writing about the Yankees being listless, or not playing with any passion is pretty much crap.  This team can just plain play ball, and is right on the verge of getting things right back together.  If they can win 2 or 3 of the games against Boston in the next few days, this division race isn't over by a long shot.  You'll hear more of this later in my game recap and over the next few days, but to me, the question isn't if the Yankees snap out of their funk, but when.  It pains me to say that, because I'd love to see them finish 10-15 games out, but it just ain't happening.  We'll see about this game once the Yankees bullpen gets involved, but their offense doesn't need any help.

I completely agree. Listen, I am no fan of the yankees, but there is too much talent on that team for them to have basically the same record as the Devil Rays . . . no offense Manny ;-)

No offense taken. There's no reason... One thing to be said for the Yankees, they really do emulate professionalism. They'll have the ups and downs but being in New York means the downs are always louder...

The twins did it in a much harder division last year, and did it later in the season. The Yankees are in a lot of trouble, but you can't write them off yet

People always attempt to write off the yankees or red sox...both teams have the resiliancy and $$ to get back in it within a month...even if they win the wild card george won't care as long as they win the WS

Lets's remember, it's May. A baseball season is one of the longest if not the longest of all sports. Anything can happen. Better for the Yankees to go thru this rough stint early in the season rather then in August and September.

This is what you call a fact that when discussing new york is often forgotten...

Will be interesting to see how the Yankees do tonight and tomorrow night. If they come out of this series in good shape I look for them to start winning but still they have to get over .500 to be taken seriously. Over the years I have seen the Yankees rebound from terrible starts so would not be surprised if it happens again.

Selig should contract the Yankees.

Any organization that uses 12 different starting pitchers before June and has to hype the signing of a free agent mercenary self-centered geriatric idiot like Roger Clemens is anything but "fine". George's checkbook is not going to save this wretchedly overpaid and underperforming group of soft headed whiners and complainers this year. Blame Brian Cashman for always attempting to buy championships with George's money rather than build a solid organization from the ground up which was the recipe for the Yankees success in the 90s. What is next? Unretiring Paul O'Neill and bringing back Girardi to catch?

I'm watching them tonight and they look like the listless, overmatched team that I know them too be. Too old, too self-centered. This team does not have the passion or desire (or energy, it would seem) to make a serious run over a long season. I wonder when the powers that be in The Bronx will finally admit that they need to enter a rebuilding phase...
