Turn back to clock to 1975. We're at Shea Stadium, everyone's favorite hovel. You are name deleted. (We'll reveal your name at the end of the article, no worries!)
The Mets fall behind, 2-0, in the top of the first. With one out, in the bottom of the first, Felix Milan singles. You're up.
You ground out into a 1-4-3 double play. Ouch.
That's okay; you'll get them next time. Next time being the bottom of the third. Your team has now fallen behind, 5-1.
With one out, Del Unser singles. Milan singles again, and you're up, with runners on first and second. It's a big chance to get your team back in the game.
Grounder to short, flip to second for one, over to first for two. Ugh.
Okay, bottom of the 6th. Now, down 6-1. Milan singles, again. You? 6-4-3. Again. Two out.
Pretty bad.
Gets worse.
Bottom 8th. Down 6-2. Unser bunts for a hit. Milan? Another single! You?
Another 6-4-3.
But hey, it can't get any worse, right? I mean, the odds of another at bat are pretty low. (In fact, you won't get a chance for a fifth GIDP.)
However...
Top 9, one out, Greg Gross at the dish. Hits it to you, and you boot it.
Well done, Joe Torre, well done.
