First Weekend Preview –
As I started preparing for the first weekend of NCAA Football in 2007, I could hardly contain my excitement. I am an absolute college football geek and look forward to analyzing every game played. I am not going to force you to read my analysis for games that should be considered preseason ( e.g.,. Michigan vs. Appalachian State), but here are a few games I find interesting:
- Tennessee at Cal is the big game of the weekend. We all know what happened at Tennessee last year when Cal was pummeled by the Volunteers. This time, it is on the Golden Bears’ turf. I expect a great game with Cal covering the 5.5 point spread. Final score: Cal over Tennessee 35-27.
- Florida State opens their 2007 season against Clemson. This game is at Clemson, and that gives the Tigers 3 points1. There is no way, though, that Bobby loses to son Tommy in this one. The new FSU offense leads the Seminoles to a big win. Final Score: FSU over Clemson 27-10.
- Auburn opens up at home against Kansas State. This is a tough way to start out the season for the Tigers. They are trying to retool their offense while K-State returns most of last year’s 7-6 squad. In the end, the home-field advantage will be too much for K-State to overcome; they fall to Auburn but cover the 13.5 point spread. Final score: Auburn over Kansas 20-14.
- 13th ranked Georgia opens up playing host to Oklahoma State. This should be a high scoring game as Georgia tries to rebuild their defense and OSU comes in with much of last year’s 7th- ranked offense still intact. Here is my upset special; the OSU offense is just too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. Final Score: OSU over Georgia 31-27.
This should be a great weekend for college football fans. As usual, there are a lot of tune-up games, but there are also games that should be fun to watch. Strap yourselves in because the whirlwind starts as we work our way towards the National Championship game in January.
