The Ultimate Super Bowl XLI Prop Bet List

by user DNL

Sunday night is the Super Bowl. And what does that mean?

Lots of illegal gambling! Yay!

While we don't promote gambling, legal or otherwise, we do think proposition bets are fun. And the Super Bowl is fun. So Super Bowl Proposition Bets would probably be so much fun, we'd pass out.

How it works?

Each of the following bets has exactly two outcomes (well, three, if you include some weird outliers, ties, etc.). So, you'll need:

  1. A printer, to print out this page.
  2. A friend, to take the other side of the bet.
  3. Some degree of social skills, to decide which side of the bet you get and which falls to your friend. (NOTE: A coin can be a suitable replacement for social skills.)
  4. Something to wager. Because we don't promote gambling, we suggest "pride," or "bragging rights" or something else that's entirely worthless, like Canada. But to make this fun easy to understand, we're going to make the wager "One American Dollar" per line. So you can win a lot of money -- but most likely, you'll be owing your friend about ten bucks, because it all evens out Quebec or a chesterfield or something.

Anyway...

ON TO THE PROPS!

(And of course, feel free to edit this page and add more prop bets. The more, the merrier. Creativity counts, spelling not so much.)

Pre Game

When will Eli show up?
When will Eli show up?
  • Length of National Anthem -- over/under 1 minute, 44 seconds
  • Coin Toss -- Heads/Tails
  • The Bears Defend -- North or East/South or West endzone
  • Color of Billy Joel's shirt -- closer to red vs. closer to blue (purple, green, yellow or multicolor = push)
  • After the National Anthem, but before kickoff, will Eli (yes, Eli) Manning be shown on screen? Yes/No

In Game

  • First interception: Rex Grossman/Peyton Manning
  • First challenge: Upheld/overturned
  • First timeout (not via challenge): Bears/Colts
  • Second fumble: Recovered by fumbling team/Turnover
  • Time left when winning head coach is doused with Gatorade (or other refreshing liquid) -- over/under 1:07. (For those slow on this one: The two-minute warning is "over", while a last second FG is "under".)
  • First team to convert on 4th down: Bears/Colts (Patriots or no conversions = push)
  • Third field goal is kicked by: Bears/Colts
  • Adam Vinatieri first described by CBS commentator as "clutch" -- 1st or 4th quarter/2nd or 3rd quarter
  • Number of ads after kickoff before first Budweiser ad -- over/under 5.5
  • Time left on clock when first timeout is called (not via challenge) -- even/odd
  • First Team to Miss a FG
  • First Team to Commit Turnover
  • First Team to Commit a Penalty
  • What happens first, Manning TD Pass or Grossman INT

Post Game

  • Super Bowl MVP's uniform number -- even/odd
  • Supre Bowl MVP - Offensive player, defensive player, or special teams player?

Ones that Involve Math

  • Return yards for Devin Hester plus cumulative field goal yards by Adam Vinatieri (misses ignored) -- over/under 132.5.

Greater Than/Less Than

  • Snaps taken by Brian Griese greater than/less than field goals kicked by Robbie Gould
  • TD catches by Dallas Clark greater than/less than TD catches by Desmond Clement

How many times they show player's wives (that number has to be low after the Brenda Warner debacle) and how many times they show Archie Manning (one is too many).

I wanted to put this one up for consideration before editing.... Times Phil Simms makes a comment about something so painfully obvious that elicits a groan or similar negative reaction from at least three(3) members of the viewing party - over/under 6.5

Prop bets- from http://www.o..._1558836.php Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning's first pass falling incomplete, no team scoring in the final 3 1/2 minutes and Bears' Cedric Benson's longest rush will exceed 12 1/2 yards. Will there be a safety? Overtime? Will the team that scores first win the game? Who will have the most receiving yards: the Colts' Marvin Harrison or the Bears' Muhsin Muhammad? Will the Bears' Brian Urlacher have more than 7 1/2 solo and assisted tackles?

Super Bowl MVP will be Devin Hester because the bears will win off of, get this, a last second kick return for a TD by Hester who will score all of the bears 21 points on special teams. 21-20 Chicago

It is pretty much a given the winner of the coin toss will choose to receive. Heads will be chosen. It's more manly than tails. Besides it's been told the commemorative coins used by the officials has the heads side puffed up a little making it heavier on that side.
