The Truth of the Matter

As I stated in one of my previous posts, “if a player hasn’t done anything by week 3 of the NFL season then they probably won’t do anything for the most part of the year”.
There are a few players that you should count on throughout the season, (you don’t have to think about them, they are your starters). Others that you simply must ”sweep under the rug”, a few who will come back to the planet earth, and a couple others where you must find an idiot in your league and quickly trade them.
Let’s take a look!
QB’s
Count on them!
Donovan McNabb: Okay, he’s back! After struggling for the first two weeks of the season, McNabb showed in week 3 that’s he’s ready to play. His 37 fantasy points topped his previous two weeks combined and things will get better as the season progresses.
Jake Delhomme: He’s back to leading this franchise and playing up to his capabilities. It was surprising that Steve Smith was rated in the top 3 of all fantasy draft boards, but Delhomme was never mentioned as a viable quarterback.
Brett Favre: Veterans do what veterans do! I truly believe Favre is a weekly starter and could post one of his best seasons ever.
David Garrard: Will never put up the Palmer, Brady, or Manning numbers, but if he’s going to continue with consistent weeks of 16, 18, and 15 points respectively, Garrard is an excellent play.
Quarterbacks to Sweep Under the Rug
Drew Brees: Brees is finding out quickly that playing a 3-13 schedule in 2006 is much easier than having to face an NFC Championship schedule in 2007. I don’t see things getting any better for Brees and if you have remained in denial, you better bench him soon.
Marc Bulger: Signed a big NFL contract and most fantasy owners want to cut him. Pathetic, and with S. Jackson hampered with a groin injury things aren’t looking good.
Matt Leinart: For those of us who believed that Leinart was ready to play this season, we thought wrong. It’s clear that Leinart needs a little time to mature, but as fantasy owners we don’t have the time to sit and wait.
Derrick Anderson: Yeah right! Now that he’s playing well, I’m sure the Browns will find a way to sabotage his play.
Running Backs
Count on them!
Ronnie Brown: Somewhat of a scary situation in the first two weeks with Brown. We all know that he has the tools, but with a lackluster Miami offense things were beginning to look shaky. After a 40 point week we can all rest assured that Brown is “what we think he is”.
Marion Barber: With Barber 2nd overall in fantasy points, I think it’s safe to say that Julius Jones will begin to see a decrease in touches.
Edgerrin James: There were some doubts heading into this season with James, but with three somewhat consistent weeks, and a possible change at the QB position look for James’ numbers to get even better.
Adrian Peterson: There is always at least one rookie RB who makes a serious impact on the NFL. For those of us that were concerned about Peterson’s injury or ever doubted his ability, we were wrong. This kid is the truth!
Find an idiot in your league and trade these players!
Lamont Jordan: You can thank the Fantasy GODS for the first three weeks of the season. I never liked him and I’m still not a believer. Do not look forward to this trend continuing for Jordan.
Shaun Alexander: Alexander ranks ninth amongst RB’s and now with an injury, do not expect him to remain there.
Jamal Lewis: Averaging 12 per game, but all of his points came in one game. Browns are looking better, but Lewis is battered and worn. As the season progresses look for some adjustments to be made at this position for the Browns.
Cadillac Williams: Sophomore slump my A$$! Things aren’t looking any better and don’t expect much to change.
Steven Jackson: My preseason favorite to top Tomlinson in fantasy points. LOL! Tomlinson gets off to a slow start and Jackson plays possum. Partial tear of the groin can and will last this entire season. Just ask Fred Taylor!
