Looking at Carlos Silva's stats for the first half of the season, I am not too sure why people are so hard on him. Looking at his stats and actually studying them, I see Carlos had a very good month of April. He was 2-1 with a 3.10 era. Then in May, he was 1-4 with a 5.28 era. In May he only had 2 bad outings: May, 16--vs Cleveland; where he pitched 6 innings and allowed 5 runs, giving up 0 Home Runs & May 21--Texas, where he pitched 4 innings allowing 7 runs and one Home Run.
The month of June he again only had 2 poor games. Carlos was 3-3 with a 4.05 era. His only poor starts came on: June 8--Washington, where her lasted only 3 innings, allowing 7 runs, and again 0 Home Runs & June 18--New York Mets, where he pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs, and 1 Home Run.
His poorest month is in July so far, having an record of 0-2, and an 8.71 era.
July 3--New York Yankees, where he lasted 5 innings, giving up 5 runs and 1 Home Run & again on July 8--Chicago, pitching 5 innings, allowing 5 runs and 3 Home Runs.
In the first 4 months of the season, Carlos has pitched in 5 starts every month, (except in June where he had 6) giving up and average of less than 1.5 walks per game, and giving up about 1 Home Run every other game (except in July), and has struck out about 2.5 batters per game.
Carlos' number are fine. keeping in mind he is not a strike out pitcher, and every one knows with his style of pitching he's going to give up hits, making the defense earn their money. Carlos' confidence has not been much of an issue this year, and I only see his as getting better as time marches on. Look for Carlos to have a much improved month the rest of the way.
