The Ryan Howard FIle: No.'s 53, 54, 55

by user Christof

Philadelphia Phillies frst baseman Ryan Howard continues on his quest to be the great home run hitter of the post-Steroid Era in baseball.

Last Monday, Mr. Howard won the 2006 Home Run Derby. There were some fears that he would go into a post Derby slump, like last year's winner and current teammate Bobby Abreu did. However, Ryan has clearly shown this to not be the case in his four games since the All-Star.

On Friday, Howard hit his fifty-third career home run. Unfortunately, this 2-run blast could not help the Phils win the game. On Saturday, Mr. Howard hit his fifty-fourth career home run. This 2-run blast gave the Phillies some insurance, and they won the game going away.

Last night, Ryan Howard hit his fifty-fifth home run of his career. Again, this was a 2-run shot and gave the Phils the lead. Unfortunately, the Phillies bullpen blew the game, and the team lost yet again.

Howard now has 31 home runs for the season. The Phillies record is 48 in a season. It is most likely that Howard will break this record by Labor Day.

Howard development into becoming the greatest home run hitter of his generation has been one of the few bright spots for the Phillies this season. The Phis are now 42-49 this season. They are now in third place in the NL East. With the trading deadline fast approaching, it looks like the Phils will be sellers and not buyers. Also, after the season, the team has double-digit players eligible for free agency.

So it looks like a massive re-building process is about to begin for the Phillies. However with Ryan Howard and Chase Utley as cornerstones, the rebuilding process may not take long to complete. And that is music to the hears of the few remaining Phillies fans in this world.

Howard's first full season will result in close to 60 home runs. Just imagine what he will do in 2-3 years when he hits his prime.

I like Howard's style, I do, but there hasw been alot of athletes with potential that have ended up in the wash tub from injury. I hope Howard does not become one, I would love to see him and Pujols battle it out for years to come.

he'll be 30! I'm just messing with you. He's a great talent and seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. Phillies should have traded Thome a year or two earlier.

Maybe the Phils should have not blown their relationship up with Scott ROlen and never traded him. Hence, Thome would have not come, and Howard would have arrived 2 years earlier.

I've mentioned this before but I think it warrants being brought up again. Howard is actually two months OLDER than Albert Pujols and Pujols has been putting up great numbers for over 5 years to Howard's 1. Pujols is the best hitter of this generation, not Howard.

Adam Dunn is 10 days older than Howard, and has been producing home runs in bunches, 188 career already, 3 times more than Howard. Dunn is also left-handed in Great American. Keep swinging for the fences big donkey, who knows who'll you'll be compared too. Bring the average up a few points and Reggie Jackson isn't a stretch.

Why do you keep saying post-steroid Era? There's no such thing yet. That's like saying we're in the post-people-like-movies Era.

We're past the Steroid Era and smack dab in the middle of the HGH and everything else undetectable in a pee test Era

Is it an opinion-related topic? I think that it's a fact that there are still players on steroids in baseball.
