The Reason Arod back to NY: The Mitchell Report

18

by Barronandtheroc

(Barron) What an interesting turn of events we have here. A-Rod has contacted the Yankees and has begun direct dialogue with his former team about coming back to the Bronx. He has reached out to the Yankees without Scott Boras at his side (as demanded by the Yankees) and has made it clear that he wants to be a Yankee. Boras, of course, originally told the Yanks that it would take $350 million to get him back at pinstripes. The Yankees, of course, said goodbye and good luck.

According to John Sterling (voice of the Yankees), a deal is nearly in place and would be around a $275 million deal for 10 years. This made everyone look good except for Boras. The Yankees did not buckle, making A-Rod come to them without Boras, offering a legit and fair deal that is much less than what he wanted, and now have the best player in baseball. A-Rod looks good because he dumped Boras and realized that if he really wanted to be a Yankee and gain some ground back with Yankee fans, he would have to take less money and get a deal done face to face and sooner rather than later.... Then it all hit me...this is too good to be true.

If A-Rod wanted the money he could have gotten it. If he had wanted to play for the Yankees he could have. All he had to do was wait until the Angels, Dodgers, and other teams made their offers and presented them to the Yankees. Then it hit me again...why is he trying to get this deal done NOW with the Yankees. The only conclusion that I can come up with is that ALEX RODRIGUEZ knows that he is going to appear on the GEORGE MITCHELL STEROID REPORT. The report is coming out soon and if he is on it his bargaining position would be destroyed!!!!! I'm glad that we have the best player in baseball...I only hope that the Yankees brass had the smarts and the "brass" to ask the question and to put something in writing on this contract. I hope this isn't true, but something doesn't smell right. I like A-Rod and want him breaking the HR record in pinstripes....here's hoping I'm not right!

(Roc)  On again, Off Again? that sounds like Yankee fans stance on Arod.  As for the Fraud himself - somethings not right in the water.  You make all this fuss and upstage the world series... all to simply sign with the same team 3 days after Free Agency begins?  You don't even give it enough time to get a legit offer?  NOT EVEN UNTIL THE WINTER MEETINGS? You are shooting for the most ludicrous contract of all time - simply to back out and take a so so offer (in his standards) from the same team?  Arod wants to be the man, the star, the loved one on his team, and as long as Mr. Jeter is to his left, Arod will never be the face of that team.  So for Arod to not even listen to another team, another offer, another life - is crazy.

Alex Rodriguez is going to be on the Mitchell Report (Great call Barron) make no mistake about it - This is happening all to quickly.  He figures - Hey if Giambi got away with it, I'll just admit to it and get on with my career... and to think the Yankees aren't aware of this is also being delirious - They know it, but they know that there is a good chance nothing will be implemented - and I'm sure they have some language in the contract to help protect them if something does happen.  The change of heart is just not right, not now, not from Arod

Would be a major surprise if A-Rod's name is on Mitchell report since he doesn't have any of the outward signs of a steroids user but could be it doesn't show on him. Like don't remember Luis Gonzalez bulking up when hitting 57 homers but that doesn't mean it wasn't on something.

Interesting theory. How soon is the report due out?

Last I knew heard it would be out by end of the year but with Bud Selig involved it could either be out by Christmas or the Fourth of July. Selig is not known to do anything in a hurry except cancel a World Series.

At least Selig won't have to worry about whether he gets into the Hall of Fame. A commissioner has to do something to get in the HOF and all he has done is negative stuff like canceling the World Series and looking like a complete nincompoop the time the All Star game ended in a tie. Don't get in his way though when he is on way to bank to cash his paycheck.

Ahh but remember that the owners love Bud. MLB is making money hand over fist and one way or another Bud's prize for being the steroid whipping boy will probably be a ticket to Cooperstown. Just my opinion.

Allan Huber "Bud" Selig had no business even being commissioner. It is like A-Rod being head of players union.

If he gets his raise from Hank Steinbrenner, perhaps A-Hole will be in charge of the players' union!

I don't think he's going to be in the Mitchell Report, and taking a "mere" $27.5 million for 10 years doesn't prove, imply, or suggest anything along those lines. If he were afraid in appearing in such a report, why would he opt out of his contract in the first place? Why would he allow his agent to demand such a gargantuan figure that nobody in their right mind would pay?

I totally agree. I think a more likely explanation and one that isn't pure speculation (such as the article above) has to do with the offers or figures Boras was hearing from other teams. Why take $275 million over 10 years instead of $350 million? Because that's the best offer they could get.

With Boras and A-Rod this Yankee thing may only be a ploy to drive his price up. I don't trust either one.

A-Rod couldn't be any worse than Don Fehr...Fehr and Selig did nothing about steroids until Congress became involved.

It would be a shame to see Selig ride the steroids bus to the Hall of Fame...but then I didn't think Bowie Kuhn would make it to Hall of Fame either.

Tom Glavine is only player that I would trust if he said he didn't use steroids. It would be too obvious if he used them. The softballs he throws would become 95 MPH fastball and everyone would know he was on something/

Ahem: Alex Rodriguez, after learning that Scott Boras, in an exclusive interview with eTrueSports, has admitted to being a "real jerk," immediately fired his longtime agent. "There's only room for one jerk in my world," said A-Rod.

Alex Sanchez was caught taking steroids. It doesn't matter what body type you have, there are steroids for every type. I honestly wouldn't be surprised with any name that comes out of the Mitchell Report.

I agree. Plus, not all of these guys are necessarily looking to bulk up- especially pitchers. In addition to the muscle, faster muscle recovery is a huge key when you play 5-6 out of every 7 days, like in baseball.

The theory is not bad, but I doubt the Mitchell Report will have any teeth to it. It was a joke from the beginning and it will be a joke once it is released. My theory is that A-Rod wants to retire a Yankee with the Home Run Record and he realized that Steinbrenner's were not bluffing about the opt-out. So he swallowed his pride and did what he needed to get what he wanted. And $275M over 10 years is still one hell of a pay raise. Who would not want a 10% pay raise?

Excellent view points from the inthemixlive.com link. It doesn't make sense that he's rushing back to the Yankees, we are only three days into Free Agency and no big deals have gone down yet.

Thought A-Rod would wait at least a couple of weeks before even talking to Yankees..looks now like he never intended to leave them...just wanted to opt out of his contract and come back for more money.

Tmil is right...Sanchez only weighed 179 pounds so guess not bulking up doesn't necessarily mean he didn't use them...it is very suspicious about Gonzalez hitting 57 home runs all of a sudden for that one year.

I agree with The Pip that the Mitchell report will probably not come up with any information most people didn't know already. Selig just ordered the investigation to make it look like he was doing something about steroids while Selig himself should have been investigated for his ignoring steroids use for so many years before Congress forced him to get tough on steroids.

In all honesty, I think it has to do with the money to be made in big money markets and teams with "phat" pockets.

Big players become big players when they play for the big cities, where all of the money and fame is. The endorsement deals, the women (scratch that, he's married ;-), etc., the fans - how much and/or how many of each is tied to the market size.

That's why you'll never see Kobe in Cleveland or Detroit, except when his team is in town.
