The Rant (August 18, 2006)

Hello everybody and welcome to The Rant with your host, Ufgators. We've had quite an interesting week, with many ups and downs, a few arrests here and there, and a few quotes from "The Reege". I would like to honor my brother, Josh, who is turning 26 today, hence the special Friday edition. Happy Birthday, Josh.
So, without further ado, lets take a look at the week in review:

What's that you say? Kevin Brown was a Marlin?
What's that you say? Kevin Brown was a Marlin?
  • Is there anybody on this earth that doesn't hate Jeffrey Loria? Joe Girardi, Marlins Manager, put him in his place. Jeffrey Loria should let Girardi do his job, which, if I may add, he is doing quite well. Loria, on the other hand, is liked by no one, and should concentrate on bringing his team back up to respectability. Folks, two championships in a span of seven years ( 1997 to 2003 ) is fantastic. Too bad the roster changes every year...
  • Koren Robinson had quite a bad week. Robinson has been excused indefinitely from Vikings team activities after being charged with driving while intoxicated and fleeing police, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He was suspended four games in 2004 for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, while with Seattle. He plead guilty to DUI in 2005 and was released by Seattle before spending 28 days in an alcohol treatment facility. Is this man insane? He was in place to be the Vikings number 1 or 2 starting wide receiver, as well as starting kick/punt return man, and then he blows his whole future. What an idiot. Mr. Robinson, you've been a bust thus far to say the least, and your only claim to fame is your affinity for getting drunk. He will be lucky if he is even allowed to step on a field ever again. Good riddance, I say.
  • On America's Got Talent, The Reege had no idea what to do all evening. The show was so unorganized and it left Mr. Philbin dragging on disaster for a whole hour. First, they had the wacky acts perform for the reward of a new car. Not only were the acts far from amusing, but 3 of the 5 acts MADE A MISTAKE! After a sweet little Italian man was granted the winner, I really lost it. After an exciting performance from the Blue Man Group, they separated the final acts in to two bunches, and then had the people with real talent lose together. Great, now all the fun is out the window! Regis then proceeds to call out two groups, to which he says "Okay, and the winner of one million dollars is....NEITHER!" What kind of cruel producer tricks these young hopefuls into thinking they have a shot for a million dollars? In any event, the winner was a young lady named Bianca Ryan. One of her performances can be found here.

  • Junior Seau retired. Oh, wait, nevermind. After a heart-felt and teary-eyed goodbye, Seau realized that he could give it one more go at a Super Bowl run.

"I'm not retiring. I am graduating. Today is my graduation day.
Retirement means that you'll just go ahead and live on your laurels
and surf all day in Oceanside. It ain't going to happen."

The 37 year old San Diego native would most likely play OLB for the Patriots. I do not like his decision to come back. How can his word ever be taken at full value now? Hopefully he doesn't end up retiring the way Jerry Rice did.

  • Steve Spurrier is feeling the pressure. The South Carolina (:Cough, trader!:) coach is closing off the rest of his team's practices because he said too much is being reported on Internet sites. Oh, poor baby. Think how USC coach Pete Carroll feels. Who cares if the status of the Gamecocks is being reported on the internet? I defy you to name me another team that isn't being reported on. Spurrier, you're losing it.
  • There has been an influx of Seinfeld references/quotes on this site lately. Lets see how many times we can use these quotes in various articles. For example, when talking about Maurice Clarett, one can say he is a "bad man...a very, very bad man!" How about Tom Brady? "Oh, he's an anti-dentite!" I've officially corrupted you guys.

Parting is such sweet sorrow: thus ends the weekly rant. I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Take care everyone, and have a great, sports-filled weekend.

I can't believe it took the Armchair this long to address Seau's impending half-season with the Pats and the inevitable "I'll always remember Junior Seau as the brain, heart and soul of the New England Patriots"

manny, click the happy birthday link in the intro. i think you'll find the characters in that picture pretty familiar. as far as seau goes, i hate the move. how can we ever believe anything he says now? how can a man actually CRY and say he is finished, then two days later smile and say he is going to sign with the pats?

"go to hell you old bag"

that song will be in my head all day

I love it! Your innocence has been lost. Your heart betrayed... by Junior Seau.

Who would have seen that coming? I'll bet Dec 10th, he comes out of nowhere to smash Belichick in the noggin with a steel chair then runs over to the Dolphins sideline, rips off his Pats jersey and has a Fins jersey underneath!!! NOOOO Junior! Nooo!
