The Prodigal QB reports to camp - August 7. 2007

The Notre Dame golden boy with the flowing tresses ended his 10 day holdout when he and the Browns agreed to a 5 year deal worth $20.2 million today. $7.75 million of that is guaranteed and his contract could grow to as much as $30 million with the incentives stipulated in it.

My very wise brother Stephen saw an interview the other day with Quinn in which he explained that the hold out was due to said incentives. Like, what if he does become the starting QB mid-season, he wanted compensation for that.

OK, that’s pretty understandable. However, when you consider the ridiculously large sums of money players generally make, well, heh, Mr. Quinn, if he had oh, say, $50 grand or so in student loans from his private collegiate education, he would not have a hard time repaying it.

But this is not a worry Quinn will have to have, of course. Now your Gridiron Goddess, well Sallie Mae takes a chunk out of her account monthly and will until she is 152 years old. ha ha ha But it was totally worth it, so I’m not really complaining, just rambling.

Since Quinn missed the first 10 days of training camp, he’s got a lot of catching up to do. He’ll be better prepared to make up lost ground quickly considering the sophisticated, somewhat pro-style offense Notre Dame runs under Coach Charlie Weiss. Hey, this holdout was ridiculous in a lot of our eyes, but I don’t think this guy is a dummy. Egomaniacal, perhaps–what is with a rookie charging $75 for his autograph, for instance. However, consider the program he comes from. Notre Dame, like Southern California, like Ohio State, like Florida–like other storied, Div 1, traditionally powerhouse programs does breed its players to believe they are the best.

It just seems like Quinn is in for a little bit of a rude awakening as the low man on the NFL totem pole. Time will tell. And it will tell soon as the season is almost here!

Still holding out are #1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) and #14 Darrelle Revis (Jets).

And that is all for now football fiends and fans.

I'm sure your view would DRASTICALLY change if the player's last name was Leinart or Booty.

Yeah....Brady Quinn should only earn $25 mil if he reaches his full potential (as expected) because its still a ton of money Nope...I don't blame him at all...I'd do it too

Exactly, it's business. If missing a few days in camp meant an extra million or couple hundred thousand, why not? That's McLaren money right there. Everyone in their right mind would do it.

Not gonna lie, i used to think the same thing...than i took off my rose colored sunglasses and realized the world doesn't give a damn about you... Better question is...what if a player sucks or gets seriously hurt...all of the sudden the guaranteed money means a lot more...or for that matter the money earned early in a contract..

The autograph thing was absolutely ridiculous. I bet if you ask people in Cleveland right now, Joe Thomas or Brady Quinn, the majority would say Thomas.

I think both Leinart and Quinn are going to be big time busts. Both don't have the mental aspect of the game. They are going to fail, and fail miserably.

He'll be a(nother) flop. This just shows his (lack of) character.
