The Pressure is On at Penske South

Sometime in the last week or so, negotiations between Roger Penske's Penske South NASCAR organization, Miller Brewing Company, Mobil Oil and NASCAR itself arrived at a decision to allow the owner's points accumulated by Kurt Busch's #2 Miller Lite Dodge to be switched to the #77 Mobile One Charger to be driven in 2008 by rookie Sam Hornish Jr. The move guarantees Hornish starts in each of the first six 2008 races, including NASCAR's Super Bowl, the Daytona 500. This was a big deal and not very many people outside of the listed parties are real happy about it. It is a maneuver that appears to, at best, flaunt the spirit of NASCAR's vilified top 35 qualifier rule. At worst, it seems like NASCAR favoritism for one of the sport's most prominent owners and possibly a propping up of the lagging Dodge factory effort.
