The Playoffs are Here and The Time to Start Comparing to the Yankees has Begun!!

Maybe because I've been a lifelong Yankee fan that I just can't comprehend the way other fans look at each season. When the Yankee season ends, whether it be mid-October or in November, I'm looking back fondly on another successful season. Thankful that ownership has done all they could to ensure success, and looking forward to the following year where I know we will be competitive. But for others, they can't do that. All they can do is judge their success vs. the Yankees.
I've already heard Mets fans say, "At least we were better than the Yankees all year long". Hey, guys. That's great. I'm very proud of you. Looks like you can go home and stare at the framed picture of Bill Buckner watching a dribbler go by as therapy.
Indians fans held a pep rally to prepare for the Yanks the other day. I wonder if the bonfire is friday and if I'll have to ask my parent's permission to stay out past dark?? I haven't yet got my note for the Yankee fan pep rally. I think we stopped doing that in high school. Speaking of high school, the last time the Yankees missed the playoffs, I think I was just getting out of there. Think about it. Some people reading this will never have watched a baseball postseason that didn't include the Yankees. NEVER!!
And that takes us to the Red Sox fans. They finally won a divisional title this year. But are they using that title to intimidate the angels? No. They are using it to brag that they beat the Dark Side. You see, when the Yankees beat the Sox, they just consider it a normal occurrence. But to the Sox, beating the Yanks isn't normal. They use it to validate their usual early exit from the game. They use it to bond. "Hey, Tah-mee Say it with me one time - the Yankee's Suck!! Now let's do a shot to forget about losing to the Twins". Again, I'm very proud that you've won a World Series in this century. But for most of our 26 titles, they weren't even as pesky as a boil on our ass.
I'm not trying to be cocky. All I'm saying is that the Yankees are whom I care about. Frankly, I turn off baseball if the Yanks are out of the running. Because simply put, I don't care about the other teams. A Red Sox fan can't say that. He needs to care about other teams and be loud about his love for them in the way a less endowed guy has to be overly aggressive with penis jokes or the way a 4 foot man has to be the loudest in the room. If not, who'd notice??
So, the Yanks will drive towards hopefully another title. And when they beat the tribe, we'll hear, "Hey, it isn't too bad. We did lose to the Yankees afterall." And when we beat the Red sox, we'll hear, "You suck! We won the division." And when we hoist the trophy after winning it all, we'll hear the catcalls about buying a championship. And I'll say. "We did what it took to win". Everyone wants to be the Yanks, but nobody wants to put the cash and time into becoming them. It's easier for them to just complain. Whine on. Whine on.
