The Nation's Top Party Schools: What do You Think?

They don't leave partying to the amateurs in Morgantown. Last week, the 2008 Princeton Review released its annual list of the top party schools in the nation and West Virginia University came in at number one. Common, what else is there to do in Morgantown, West Virginia? The rest of the top ten included many of the usual suspects such as Ole Miss, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Penn State. There were some surprises though. The University of New Hampshire came in at No. 7, and UC Santa Barbara beat out UCLA for the tenth spot. So, here is the highly-anticipated top ten list:

1. West Virginia University
2. University of Mississippi
3. University of Texas
4. University of Florida
5. University of Georgia
6. Penn State University
7. University of New Hampshire
8. Indiana University
9. Ohio University
10. University of California, Santa Barbara

Now, I want to know what you think. Is the Princeton Review full of baloney? Does your school deserve a higher or even lower ranking? What is the top annual party in the nation?

You talk about nothing to do in Morgantown...same situation at UNH. At least there's legit sports at WVU. There is literally nothing to do at UNH. Back when I was applying to schools, UMass was near the top of the list, and Colorado has also been a perennial contender.

The new shit that happened at CU on Monday may crack down on that as unrelated as it may be to partying. Victim is fine though if anyone was wondering.

No its not at all. Being a party school has nothing to do with being a sports town. If that was the case this list would read OU, Texas, Tennessee,OSU and Michigan

I know Santa Barbara is crazy, which is impressive considering it does not really have a strong sports program to help fuel it. I have close friends who say Ohio State, UT, and Florida nearly blew up the world after they won national championships.

New Hampshire sort of surprises me though. I must admit I know nothing about the school, but I always had this image of the state being a sort of dull and nature type of place.

Ohio University should not be on this list. Outside of their Halloween celebration the school is pretty weak.

I graduated from WVU in 1993 and I loved it (what I can remember at least)! It was definitely the big party school then, as it is now. I went to grad school at Texas A&M and it was such a let down, party wise. I did enjoy it, but the people just don't let loose and have fun like WVU. It's much more conservative and less diverse. I've lived a lot of places since then and nothing comes close to life in Morgantown. I think it needs to be put on some list for "best places to live" or something like that also.

Ah, but these stats can be very misleading. Instead of relying on the same statistics to do these rankings, I instead took a Sabermetric approach. The categories I used were "beer consumption per person;" "sexually transmitted disease per drunken sexual encounter;" "gang bangs per major sports team;" "boot and rally vs. unconscious hospital visit;" and "arrests per hard drug ratio."

The sabermetric approach led to a shocking result. Here is the top 5: 1) Yale University

2) MIT

3) University of Chicago

4) Kevin Youkilis (inside sabermetrics joke)

5) Union College

What really makes UNH a great party school is the fact that the University itself is right ontop of the town. A lot of schools that I have seen (exception city schools)are often set away from their respective towns. At UNH there are a few fraternities right across the street (about 50 feet door to door) from dorms. Parties are often a few minute's walk from where most the student population lives. Frats, apartments, sports houses, there is always something to do and close by. The fact that New Hampshire is a small state and relatively rural sure helps as well. Though Boston is about an 1:15 away and there are a lot of outdoor recreation opportunities, most students stay on campus to booze. Couple this with good sports teams (hockey and football) and I suppose that's where the ranking comes from. We are small compared to other schools, but I suppose we are doing something right to get on the list. I believe hard partying occurs on any campus, and who knows how accurate and scientific their results are. But it seems at UNH, its just that much crazier. So for now, I'm livin the dream up here in the Granite State!

University of Iowa is not given enough credit! Ive looked on about 5 different listings and UofI is always between 9 and 11. Right now I attend a very small private university with very strict rules in terms of drinking and whatnot. Naturally, every chance I get to leave I tour America visiting every college or university I can make it to. Personally, University of Iowa has been hands down the best party experience Ive had, coming second only to a 2 week spring break in Mexico. The downtown area is littered with bars and clubs which are 18 to get through the doors. Im not 21 and I have never had a problem getting drinks. As soon as you leave the downtown area, you instantly enter the Greek sector. The close proximity of bars and greek life makes for the best experience ever. To top it all off, the girls are fucking amazing. Ive never been to ASU, but Ive spent 2 weeks in Mexico with their girls. Dont get me wrong, ASU girls are the top of the list, but Iowa needs to be moved up. A 14:1 girl to guy ratio combined with midwest hospitality makes for gorgeous girls that would be more than happy to show you a good time.

i went to high school in iowa and now i got to Michigan State. Ive also been downtown to Iowa City. I personally think the bar scene blows. But hey... we all think our own college is the best. Every school is a party school. Some places just have to try a little harder

UCSB IS the #1 PARTY SCHOOL. Its because of the 12 oclock noise ordinance. Nobody parties harder than Isla Vista. Back in the day when we didnt have the ordinance we were #1 on the list. Isla Vista consumes consumes 2% of the nations alcohol
