The Monday's: Bears Beat the Packers

by Oh No Romo

[1] Week five has mostly left us. With the exception of the Monday Night Football game, taking place later on tonight, it's safe to assume that the week is over.

Time for some thoughts on Week 5:

  • Chicago Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers, 27-20- Wow, I'm a Bears fan and I never saw it coming. Brian Griese, who looks like Mr. Roper from 'Enter the Dragon', had two touchdown passes.

The Bears needed this win and they certainly went into Lambeau Field and got the job done. Cornerback Charles Tillman forced two fumbles, which helped the Bears get back into the game.

Also, Brett Favre passed George Blanda for most interceptions All-Time. A big congratulations to him.

  • Washington Redskins blow out the Detroit Lions, 34-3- What a great game for Jason Campbell, 23 of 29, 248 yards and two touchdowns. Plus check out this video from yesterday's game.

As for Detroit, their offense shut down faster than a power outage at a Dave Matthews Band concert. They had 11 first downs and 144 total net yards. Quarterback Jon Kitna threw two picks. Like I said on Friday, I'm still not sold on the Lions.

  • Houston Texans defeat the Miami Dolphins on a last second field goal by Kris Brown, 22-19- Great game for Ronnie Brown, 114 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.

The Texans scored only one touchdown. Brown had five field goals and that includes the 57-yarder that he kicked with one second left.

The bigger story is the fact that the Dolphins are 0-5 and their quarterback Trent Green got knocked out of the game. The good news is that he's ok.

  • Pittsburgh Steelers shut out the Seattle Seahawks, 21-0- Great work for the Steelers. They played Steeler football and came out on top.
  • New York Giants defeated New York Jets, 35-24- Did the Giants win, or did the Jets lose?
  • San Diego Chargers destroyed the Denver Broncos, 41-3- Ooooh, that looks like it hurt.
  • Monday Night Football Pick: Dallas Cowboys over Buffalo Bills

See ya

Favre tied Blanda (277). It's only a matter of time before he passes him though.

I'm extremely disappointed in Mike McCarthy. He had his offense working in the first half, keeping the Bears off-balance by tossing short passes and running the ball very effectively, especially for the Packers. And even after the two James Jones fumbles, the Pack led by 10 at half. But in the second half, the Packers went away from it. Instead of passing on first down to set up a short 2nd down, they were running on the first two downs almost every time and the Bears knew they were going to. At one point when the game was tied at 20, McCarthy ran three rushing plays on a three-and-out. This sort of conservatism is why Mike Sherman was not able to get the Packers deep into the playoffs. The Packers could have and by all means should have destroyed the Bears last night.

I also felt McCarthy fell in love with the run in the second half, but playcalling is about reason 7 as to why the Packers lost. The game was lost by the guys with the jerseys, not the guys with the headsets.

Ya gotta take care of the ball. And ya gotta tackle.

Bush and Collins were exposed yet again in coverage. Henceforth, every Packer opponent is just gonna come out 4 wide and throw away from Harris and Woodson.

I agree to you to an extent. The Packers were great against the run, so they did do their fair share of good tackling.

You're right about the secondary. Muhammad and Berrian combined for two catches for 27 yards, while the two tight ends caught seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. My buddy made the comment last night that Bush is turning out to be the second coming of Ahmad Carroll.

But I still believe that McCarthy could've made that game a blowout but he didn't. He shied away from going after the big play even though the short routes set up plenty of opportunities and his timeout at the end of the first half cost the Packers a chance at a touchdown rather than a field goal.

The loss itself doesn't bother me all that much. Yes, it was a division game. Yes, it was the Bears. But they needed to lose sooner or later. The turnovers concern me more. 8 fumbles in two weeks.

My little review of the game:
