Ah, Cleveland sports. A tale of tragedy, breaks going the wrong way, and, much like Shakespeare, some secondary character wins in the end (like the New York Giants after The Drive). However, Cleveland may finally be getting some breaks.
1. The Cleveland Indians: They fell in the ALCS to the Red Sox. But you know what? It was great while it lasted. We currently have three free agents: Trot Nixon, Kenny Lofton, and Chris Gomez. That's it, which means our entire true core will be back in '08. If we want any or all of these three signed, we can get them at relatively small value (they're all past they're prime), and if not we can really unload on the free agent market, which we're doing by signing Masahide Kobayashi, which will help our already very good bullpen. The resigning of Aaron Fultz, Joe Borowski, and HGH helps as well. Honestly, this team is looking very, very, very good for next year. C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona are one of the best 1-2 punches in the game, and if Sabathia can actually perform in the playoffs , then this is a team to watch this offseason.
2. The Cleveland Browns: I had them at 6-10, having a pretty good season but not there yet. And I was an optimist compared to some of you guys. Well, look at them now, one of the more exciting offenses to watch in the league, and Derek Anderson has been very good. So have Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow II, and Joe Thomas, for that matter. Now, if their defense was better we'd be saying they're in the playoffs. Granted, there have been plenty of injuries on that side, so I'll let it slide (any injuries NOT on the offensive line I'll take, with our history). Prediction for the end of the season? Well, Crennel's off the hot seat now, methinks. That Frye deal's looking smarter now.
3. The Cleveland Cavaliers are playing better than ever. Wait, actually... they're not. My warnings went unheeded in the offseason (in fact, I should go check that blog, because I think they did the opposite of every one of my points), and now LeBron is single handedly keeping this team above .500. Quite honestly I don't feel like talking about them. On the plus side, Daniel Gibson may be working his way into being someone to take some pressure off LeBron, which the Cavs sorely, sorely need.
Until next time... I think my article writing skills have fallen a bit, I need to write more.
