The Mets Are Slowly Killing Me

16

by user Awrigh01

I intended to write a long article dissecting the woes of the New York Mets. But, I am going to keep this short. The Mets are losing like its going out of style. Fans across New York -- and the nation -- are reeling. This is one of the most painful losing streaks in the past seven years. The team, which at the beginning of the season, showed such promise is deteriorating before our eyes.

I have three questions:

  • Where have you gone Mr. Beltran?
  • Are you done Delgado?
  • Why the hell are Mota and Sucky-weis still in the bullpen

Omar something has to be done. Make a deal, fire someone. Let's get the team back on track.

Um, its called a baseball season. Over the course of 162 games, every team , every year for the past 100 years has a bad 20 game stretch. If you don't, then you win 110 games which rarely happens. Why do you think teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Braves make the playoffs every year? Because over the course of 162 games, the best teams come out on top. All that matters at any given point in time is your record and place in the standings. And the Mets are in first place. I tell this to this friend of mine who complains every day about the Mets: ITS CALLED A BASEBALL SEASON.

A losing streak of this magnitude is unacceptable when you have a team this talented. If Beltran is banged up let Carlos Gomez play cetner field and make due with Ben Johnson, David Newhan, Ricky Ledee or even Chip Ambres in left field for a few days. Delgado has been hitting the ball better, just not producing yet. I think he will snap out of it. While I agree with you that teams go through streaks where they lose, a team this good should not go through month long losing streaks.

Beltran and Delgado, along with the bullpen, are killing the Mets. Nothing else.

I think that Beltran has been playing through an injury or two. He really irks me. He was fantastic last year but despite his talents, he is a little soft. As for Delgado...I'm not sure. He's just been bad.

And Willie...stop putting Shoenweiss into situations that are meaningful!

But, not to worry Awrigh01 - Omar is looking to make some moves.

Wait...you have bullpen problems...welcome to the 2007 MLB season...so does everyone else... Its going to be tough to find a good pen arm...and its gonna cost an arm and a leg (get it!)...The mets will have to part with talent or, more likely, good prospects, to acquire the pen arm they want/need...

The Mets will have to trade one of their highly rated outfield prospects (Milledge, Fernando Martinez or Lastings Milledge) or one of their young pitchers (Pelfrey or Humber).

Of course. I thought I was past it - but after going to Yankee Stadium on Saturday my hatred is renewed.

Maybe it was just because it was the subway series, but the Yankee fans, at least near me, were complete degenerates. A bunch of drunken, meathead asshole who spent their whole time trying to start fights rather than watch the game.

It was like being at a Jets game!

Patrick, what do you expect of New Yorkers? Mets fans are the same. Ever go to Fenway Park with a Yanks cap on? They are EXTREMELY obnoxious. Welcome to sports rivalry.

You guys will turn it around no question. The lineup is too strong to not make the playoffs. Plus with the likely addition of Mark Buehrle before the deadline, you guys should be fine.

Mets were lucky yesterday with only Nationals winning in the NL East. Have a feeling the Phillies could be the team to beat before the season is over. Braves seem to have hit a wall since losing Mike Gonzalez for the season and with Andruw Jones hitting barely above the Mendoza line.

Schoeneweis is making $3.6 million...may be only reason he is still around. They could call up a minor leaguer that can post a 6.29 ERA and save close to $3 million.

Unfortunetly, it doesn't matter hif schoeneweis gets the ax or not, he still gets his $ and that's why he's staying on the team. I think it could pull it together, but more likely is he'll ride the pine

I think age is certainly a factor. Not all these guys are playing poorly but Delgado, Wagner, and LoDuca are 35, Easley is 37, Alou is 40, El Duque and Glavine are 41, and Franco is 106.

I think New York is going through a "let's load up on old veterans to win a title" phase. Look for it to cross over to the Giants and Jets soon. It's already taken care of the Yanks, Mets, and Knicks.

"these guys are playing poorly but Delgado, Wagner, and LoDuca are 35, Easley is 37, Alou is 40, El Duque and Glavine are 41, and Franco is 106." Easley, Wagner, Duque and Lo Duca have been terrific. Glavine and Delgado do appear to be showing their age.

ok, loduca has not been terrfic, but he's hitting .300 and playing great defense. He's a leader on the team. He's been good, but not terrific.

Have you seen the Phils bullpen pitch recently. If you want a slow death, be a Phillies fan and hear these infamous words "Warming up in the Phillies bullpen is (fill in blank)."

right now the bright spots have been Madson and Zagurski...Hypothetically, all things remaining constant with them, a pen of Madson, Bronko, Myers, Gordon, AA and Geary isn't all that bad...well...its not terrible. At this point in the season, I do not see the phils addressing this problem with serious help, reason being there's too few arms available and they will cost premium talent...you might see a low risk high reward move (kinda like percival) with the hope that they can get a relieve but for now, the best we can hope for is Madson, Gordon, Myers and Zagurski as the situational lefthander...
