The Mets; Reason to Worry?

They've lost 9 of their last 11 games, Moises Alou might not be returning this year, Pedro Martinez is still atleast a month and a half away, and the bullpen has finally shown it's weakness in the month of June. And yet, there's no worrying coming from this one fan. Reports show that the Mets will pursue OF Brady Clark, and while he might not be what he was two years ago, he could fit well into the number two spot in the order, which would enable the surprising Shawn Green to bat sixth, and the popular Paul Lo Duca to bat Seventh. Sure, this move would do all but book Carlos Gomez's ticket back to New Orleans, but this move was inevitable anyway. The Mets are just looking for a way to break out of this slump. David Wright and the Pitching staff have been the only bright spots during this two week stretch of misery. The once unhittable Joe Smith has now proved to be human. The once solid reliever that is Aaron Heilman has had his struggles. Scott Schoeneweis, pitching with a torn tendon in his left leg, has been the pitcher the fans love to hate. Guillermo Mota is making it seem more and more like a needle had alot to do with his success last year. And now, reports say that promising reliever Ambiorix Burgos will be shut down with elbow problems in New Orleans. The bench has also had to deal with adversity. Fan favorite Endy Chavez is not available for a month or so. Father time Julio Franco has done little to help this team so far. Ramon Castro's hot start is just a memory. David Newhan is gone. And the once clutch Damion Easley hasnt been seen doing his stuff for a while now. Perhaps the only life the bench has seen over the past two weeks has been Ruben Gotay, a young second baseman, that could perhaps take over the job at somepoint in his career. Maybe a big reason for the Mets struggles has been the lack of production from Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran. Reyes, hasnt been struggling as bad as Beltran, but Stolen Bases have been seen more by David Wright then Reyes lately. Under normal circumstances, Beltran might get tonights finale in LA off. But with the bench not producing, and an off-day tomorrow, its a safe bet that Beltran will be in the order.
Perhaps tonight is night the bats finally awaken. The Mets play the surging Yankees this weekend, and then go onto play the Twins, and the A's. Both teams with some great pitchers, but offense that is scarce. The Mets have their "ace" on the mound tonight, as Jorge Sosa goes for his seventh win, which would give him the team lead. The Mets face Brad Penny, a pitcher that they have fared extremely well against. So Perhaps, tonight is the night. The night that all the worrying comes to and end. The night that the Mets finally start playing like the Mets again. The night they show the NL that they're not going anywhere.
