The MLS All-Star Game Preview: It's worth watching

All-Star games in most sports are silly and meaningless. The Pro Bowl comes at the end of the NFL season, so nobody really wants to be there. The NBA All-Star game has some of the most sloppy play you'll ever see, and the NHL game is so irrelevant that they've cancelled it for the Olympics.
The MLS All-Star game has had many relevant editions itself. Recently, however, they've pushed to make an interesting case for the soccer fan to watch. And they have struck gold this year.
This year's game will feature an MLS All-Star team going up against Chelsea, England's two-time defending champions and the team whose spending habits make the Yankees look thrifty. Chelsea in itself is a veritable all-star team, featuring the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba. And that doesn't even include this summer's humongous signings, Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko and German midfielder Michael Ballack. If you paid attention during the World Cup, some of the players on the field will sound familiar.
Clearly Chelsea is among the top teams in the world. That's what makes it so special. With sparse coverage of European soccer on networks like ESPN, having the chance to see a top tier team is a great event.
As for the game itself, I'm interested to see how much time stars will be playing. I'm expecting a half of football out of the big names. I'll pick Chelsea to win, 3-1.
