The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, after a two-hour rain delay, beat the Red Sox in Boston 8-3. Kelvim Escobar limited the potent Red Sox to two runs over six innings, and the offense activated in the seventh inning with six runs, highlighted by rookie Howie Kendrick's two-run single.
This is huge for a number of reasons. Escobar is back on track, we beat a very good team in their house showing that the Angels resurgence in the second half is not just a little bit of luck, it shows that the Angels can win with their talented rookies in the line-up, and the Oakland Athletics lost, putting the Angels into first place all by their lonesome.
And of course this is huge because it continues to convince the team that they can win, and a winning attitude is contagious. Veterans and rookies alike are contributing, working together as a team. The Angels have a nice mixture of youth and veteran leadership in their pitching and offense - - the same mixture they had in 2002 when they won the World Series.
