Cleveland Indians 1 -- Boston Red Sox 0
What a great pitching performance wasted by the Red Sox offense and there lack of Brain Power; most notably Coco Crisp's lack of hustle. Now I will be the first to defend Crisp and give him his due, but how could he coast those last few steps? It's a ONE-RUN game man; move your BUTT! And Cora watch the third base coach although most of the time the hand signals are confused with gang signs they do MEAN something.
It's just frustrating when you know the Sox need to win and they make silly errors. We all make silly errors at a time but it just sucks when they come in bunches! Beckett pitched great but even he had a silly error when he hung a fastball right down the middle to Franklin Gutierrez.
But let's really give credit to where it's due...Fausto Carmona really pitched one hell of a game going toe-to-toe with Beckett. This kid has found his calling as a starter and really took it to the Red Sox. I hope the Indians management watched real close last night...keep getting more pitching talent to go with those bats and you can win.
The Red Sox need to rebound as the Yanks keep closing that gap. I questioned sitting Mike Lowell and Julio Lugo in the same night giving them the option to choose last night or Friday night against Tampa Bay. I would assume you keep your best (tired or not) in the lineup against a good team. Mike Lowell is your RBI man right now and you need him against Cleveland, Not Tampa Bay. They can win in Tampa Bay without Mike & Julio. They can't in Cleveland. Really one of the only decisions I have questioned all year.
Last night was tough, but your gonna win some like that (Tuesday) and you are surely gonna lose some like that as well. The best thing to do however is rebound and move onto the next game and put forth an effort to win.
The Red Sox will attempt to do this tonight with Kason Gabbard. He has not won yet on the road and I think this will be Kason's first test of his abilities. Personally I think he should do well, but surely we have seen stranger in our time. Kason, Jon Lester, and even Tim Wakefield will be watched a little bit closer over there next couple of starts as Schilling looks to get though his last rehab start tonight with Pawtucket. One of these three will be transition into either the bullpen or back to Triple A over the next two weeks.
I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding Schilling and his comments on HBO. Honestly with all the bad press and controversy in sports I choose to leave the topic alone. I am constantly battered with it and frankly tired of it. Athletes need to be a little more smarter and take responsibility for what they say or do. And that's all I have to say on that subject.
Thanks for reading the post...there will surely be more!
