I use my own formula, sort of like the much maligned BCS system to figure out what teams are the best in college basketball. Here are my current, definitely eye-opening, rankings:
Now, onto the rankings (last week in parentheses) -
- Texas (2) - deserves the spot after beating UCLA
- UCLA (1) - apparently the top two teams in the nation played last night, and nobody noticed
- Memphis (4)
- Duke (5)
- Marquette (6)
- Xavier (9)
- Texas A&M (3)
- Miami (Fl) (NR) - from unranked to #8, great Kenpom and Computer numbers
- Louisville (7) - why did they lose to BYU?
- George Mason (10) - the polls don't like them, RPI loves them (that will switch by season's end)
- North Carolina (8) - terrible RPI and SOS and they cannot play defense (again)
- Butler (16)
- Michigan State (14)
- Tennessee (17)
- Washington State (11)
- Villanova (13)
- Kansas (21)
- Pittsburgh (12)
- Vanderbilt (NR)
- Oregon (15)
- Gonzaga (18)
- Virginia (22)
- Indiana (20)
- St. Mary's (NR) - two WCC teams in the Top 25, a rare sight
- Georgetown (24) - please play someone besides Fairfield
Dropped Out: Wisconsin, Syracuse, N.C. State Just missed (also considered): Brigham Young, Arizona, USC, Clemson, Stanford, Southern Illinois, Kansas State, Arkansas
