The Hawks Nest: Playing a Pessimistic Seahawks Critic

The Seattle Seahawks have been picked to lose this division consistently for what, like, 4 years now? And the result? A 4th straight NFC West title after a 42-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals, their 5th win in a row, including 2 heart stopping stands on the road against the St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. Very impressive right? To get 9 wins in 13 games after getting 9 all of the last regular season, that's a huge improvement. But that's the part where I play the pessimistic fan, the person who believes this Seahawks run has been nothing but a joke.

Overrated. That's right, you heard me, Seattle's run has been nothing but a fluke, deception to the naked eye. Come on people, they waited until the 4th quarter to pull away against Tampa in their home opener. Then they lost to the Cardinals, come on, they were down 17-0, came back, but still found a way to lose because they spotted Arizona too many points. So now they are 1-1, a very poor start to the season. They get a chance to face Cincy, 1-1 as well, but look at Cincy now, they suck even when they are healthy! Seattle was a lucky Ed Hochuli call away from losing the game! At home, against Cincy, that's awful dude. San Fracisco.....ugh....everyone beats San Francisco (except the Cardinals, HEYOOO!!), they're 3-1 but so what?

Now they finally face decent competition in the Steelers, and they get the crap knocked out of them. Heck, they were shut out! They couldn't even beat the inconsistent Saints at home! What does that tell you? Sure, they pummeled the Rams 33-6, but, they were only up 10-3 at the half against an injury riddled team. This ain't a Super Bowl contender. They get a bye, they face another good AFC team in the Cleveland Browns, they had the lead, but I already had an excuse, I was ready to say Cleveland's defense is crap. But I didn't need to use that at all, they choked, they lost!!!

Which leads me to the stupid 5 game winning streak. Beat San Fran on Monday, big whoop, they did that already. Pulled away late against Chicago, meh. Then, they were dominated by a 2 win Rams team, only to have Gus Frerotte #$^$ up at the last moment. Lucky bastards, they should've lost. Oh look, the Eagles, they beat them by a hair only because AJ Feeley can't differentiate his own receivers from a linebacker. A cute 4 game win streak, against teams that have already been virtually eliminated from the playoffs. Enters Arizona, the Cards lose 42-21. Impressive win right? It's a 6-6 team that can still make the playoffs, but they did not have Anquan Boldin, or a healthy Larry Fitzgerald, who did nothing. I mean, Silencer76 is right, Jerheme Urban got 123 yards and a score, it's not like there was garbage time anyway. Jordan Babineaux sucks, he can't defend a guy like him?

Some misleading stats now. Seattle is 2nd in the league in sacks. Well duh....Kurt Warner, Alex Smith, Trent Dilfer, Rexy, AJ Feeley, they can't run for crap!! Seattle is also 2nd in the league in interceptions. Come on, those are desperation throws we're talking about, of course you can beef up stats like that one. I mean, you'd have to be terrible to not pick off a pass that is thrown right to you. Seattle leads the league in passing TD's allowed. That's nonsense anyway, as long as you run right through that small defense, you're fine. Cedric Freaking Benson got a long touchdown run. Why should I believe this defense is any good when they give up big plays all the time?

So this team is 9-4, but frankly speaking, they've played poorly all year, and have yet to show me they can even get past a team like the Giants.

This has been an episode of the pessimistic Seahawks critic. No preview of the Panthers game this weekend because...well...what's the point? It's your turn now, is the PSC correct in believing this "hype" surrounding a 9-4 team like Seattle?

The most annoying thing pundits say about the Hawks: who have they beaten? Um hello stupid pundits, how about the teams in front of them. How about the teams on the schdedule, you know, like the teams they are suppose to beat. Sorry Seattle couldn't pick their own competition and play New England, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Indy, Dallas and Green Bay on the road all season. Pundits biggest problem is they are given too much time to speak.

Here's the thing with Seattle...i agree I don't think they're very good...

But neither is the rest of the NFC...Seattle could very easily beat teams like Minnesota, Tampa, New York or New Orleans...can they contend with GB?...i think so...Dallas?...well, look at last year, Romo does strike me as a playoff peer quite yet.

So, is their path to the SB difficult...yeah, i think all paths are and with potentially two road games to get there, it doesn't look easy or probable...but will teams like GB or Dallas be more than 7 pt favs...nope...

So if they make the SB and play NE or Indy, can they win? They barely lost to a hot steelers team and its any given sunday man...
