The Free Agent Party May Become a Sausage Fest

by Tyduffy

Major League Baseball had its best season ever in 2007, bringing in more than $6 billion in revenue. This fact, combined with the paucity of quality free agents available, should, prove, according to conventional wisdom, to be a bonanza for potential free agents.

Even a painfully mediocre pitcher like Carlos Silva could command a five-year $50 million contract.

However, the poor free agent market could also drastically increase the trade market. With no quality free agents available, the price for a marquee asset should theoretically skyrocket.

This was certainly the thought of Team Boras who pulled their marquee slugger out of his Yankee contract. Coming off arguably the best season for a right-handed hitter ever and having the commercial clout that will come with his challenge of the home run record combined with being the only impact player available should theoretically create the perfect storm to make A-Rod a very, very wealthy man.

The Twins will have the same thought with uber-starter Johan Santana. He can be a free agent at the end of the season and they are almost certainly not going to be able to afford him. Putting the best pitcher in the game not named Josh Beckett on the market, should theoretically bring their choice of packages of 3-4 of the finest prospects.

Theoretically, both Team Boras and the Twins should come out rich. Unfortunately for them, they aren’t the only teams that had this idea.

Alex Rodriguez assumed that he would be alone, but that may not be the case. The Marlins will investigate the market for Miguel Cabrera. He is not a health nut, but he’s eight years younger and puts up eerily similar offensive stats.

If a team doesn’t want to part with their entire cupboard of elite prospects or spending money for the next ten years for a third baseman, there are cheaper options as well. The White Sox will be looking to deal Joe Crede. Baltimore’s B-12 shot bomber Miguel Tejada would undoubtedly enjoy a move to a different team and to a less physically demanding position. The Cardinals have also discussed trading Scott Rolen. And, oh yeah, the World Series MVP Mike Lowell is also a free agent. With a host of cheaper options, A-Rod will probably have to respond to the market rather than dictate it.

The same thing could happen with the pitching market. The Devil Rays may attempt to unload their own “Cabrera” with left-hander Scott Kazmir. The A’s may be shopping Dan Haren for a collection of prospects. The Padres have at least discussed making a Jake Peavy deal with the Yankees. There is also the possibility that the Tigers or the Giants could cast a young arm out into the pond to see what they can reel back.

None of these guys are Santana, but they aren’t bad options at a lesser price.

The market appears to be the perfect storm for players and teams ready to unload them. However, with the potentially abundant trade market, the market could become saturated with talent, driving down the demand and, ultimately, the price for the elite player.

This party advertises hot girls and free beer, but there is a high probability it will end up being a sausage fest.

I think that's why he apparently gets so much "ass"- hot girls love to hang out with homosexual men- how many hot chicks has Gay-Rod been linked to lately? I have a friend who's gay- he has girls all over him- they like tellin him stuff, get naked in front of him, hang all over him- sort of like what happens to Gay-Rod- I told them I was a homosexual as well but when they got naked in front of me I couldn't help myself... game over

Not like what? It's not like we're making this stuff up- it's all over the media and internet world- there is huge talk that A-rod is a homosexual- hence he has been nicknamed "A-Gay" or "Gay-Rod"- sayin sausage fest is a word to describe what really is going on in this free agent party- it's a bunch of dudes drolling over a buch of other dudes-- that's a sausage fest- why is this a problem?- oh is free speech not allowed here?

Here is the truth about MJD and why his backwards thinking must be ridiculed.

MJD actually insinuates or perhaps sincerely believes that the world is out to "get" the gays. He pines for an uber-sensitive society where everybody minds their p's and q's or face the wrath of the pc police. Of course, since he has continuously demonstrated a pretentious and condescending attitude towards nearly everyone here at ArmchairGM (save for perhaps DNL), obviously he has unilaterally declared himself King Solomon of this website's sense of morality.

The irony is that the homosexual community probably has no inclination or knowledge of MJD's sentiments nor most likely has any desire that a douche such as this windbag crusades and slays the words of harmless gibberish from sports bloggers. In the real world, I'm sure we all know homosexual people. It is doubtful that any of these people actually sit at home with a lock and loaded glock pointed to their temple, pining to die because it was written at ArmchairGM that "Tony Romo is a Homo" or "Alex Rodriguez is a fag". It is just as unlikely that any of us here has committed an act of violence, prejudice or discriminatory act towards a homosexual individual or were brainwashed into doing so simply because of Internet posted comments. Believe it or not MJD, but the people here can make such differentiation between Internet discussions and real world activities.

Part of the deal towards acceptance among participants of a diverse culture is humorous harmless innuendo towards our differences. Making a big production out of "receiving a bagel" or "slurring" a quarterback as a gay, is in itself an assumption that such verbage lends to actual violence based upon discrimination. To that, I say bullshit. In contrast, may I suggest that such "protection" of cultural and societal differences actually divides groups of people.

Case in point - I did not go batshit over DNL's creation of a bucket of fried chicken as a gift. Rather, I embraced it to show that yes I can indeed have a sense of humor at my expense. Interesting enough, I received such a "gift" from MJD himself. Yet, he condemns the action of receiving a bagel "gift" as a malicious mockery of his Jewish ancestory and religious background.

Again - hypocritical bullshit. And yes, it deserves to be satirized.

The "we must protect" over-the-top political correctness is simply facktarded. It is also an attitude shared by Jay Mariotti following "Fag Gate" who pretended to also be the self-imposed protector of the gay community. He was blitzed with scorn and criticism equally from clear thinking every day gay and straight Chicagoans. As Mariotti discovered, his "protection" was decidedly unwanted by the community residing within Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville.

MJD is very big on the alleged fact that he attended law school and assumably (based upon previous derogatory comments) high SAT scores, that he plays this stupid elitist trump card when faced in an adversarial situation. Failure in his nearsighted mentality includes real life experiences and a community college education. His absolute worst fear is to be shown up by someone he perceives to be less than himself in terms of a academia or career achievements. Undoubtedly, the very pinnacle of such success is being an attorney. No word yet to actual success of passing the bar.

In the jock world, a male athlete would akin such ideology to "who has the biggest penis". However, this type of jock humor and innuendo is lost upon an individual such as MJD. Instead he will continue to post bland "sensible" and "safe" comments in protest of our "outrageousness" (which will and in fact already has been labelled racist) and call upon the admins of the site to restore order. And of course, he has already demanded that I should "leave" this website which of course I have refused. If a death rate issued to me several weeks prior did not dissuade me from posting on this blog than of course neither will MJD. And after receiving notification from several individuals that MJD was complaining about my supposed atrocious comments here at the 'Chair, it was clear that he cannot fight his own battles. As well, there was the failed attempt in the Locker Room to rally the majority of the regular contributors here to join hands and march in protest for my removal. Crickets chirped.

Evidently, MJD has no real life issues to contend. There is little doubt from his continuous running act here at ArmchairGM that he believes he is an individual of extreme importance. If so, then the legal system is being denied one hell of an alleged brilliant mind at the expense of exercising judgement of right and wrong at a sport's blog.

And if MJD is all that he claims to be, than his time here at the 'Chair instead of saving the world is the greatest tragedy of all.

How about 'em apples from a black kid that grew up in South Chicago, Jamel?

Now you don't have to worry about "getting in trouble". Watch as I am instantly minused, then neutralized along with a few supporting comments here or there. And I'm sure Manny will have a tremendous take home message to which we can all learn a real life lesson. Kind of like Kyle Broslovsky telling us "what he learned today" from another episode of South Park!

Good night gang!

Brian Cashman: Hey, Kevin, what do you want for Jake Peavy?

Kevin Towers: Jeter, Kennedy, Chamberlain, Cano.....

Cashman: OK, OK, I get it. Never mind

That's the extent of the Jake Peavy offer. They are talking about Adrian Gonzalez, however.

Donatveo - That would be because it was white people who went marauding across the world enslaving people, colonizing them, ethnically cleansing them, or at the very least fleecing them economically. Tmil - You have one start in the World Series do you want Beckett or Santana?
