The 1983 World Snooker Championships pitted Cliff Thorburn against Terry Griffiths in the Second Round. It is one of the most famous matches of all time for many reasons.
The match went on to be won by Thorburn at 3:21am, the latest ever finish to a match at the World Snooker Championship. It finished 13-12. The referee had blisters on his feet at the conclusion of the match (he hadn't sat down since the start of the session at 9pm).
Despite being between two of the most safety minded - and slowest - players in the game, the match is also remembered for the first ever maximum break at the World Snooker Championship. At the time, it was only the fourth ever in Championship play, and Thorburn was delighted with the result. It started with a terrible fluke, but from there, it was marvellous play from Thorburn.
The commentary line of "Good luck mate" is well known amongst snooker fans.
