Josh Q. Public: See the names have all changed since I been around. But the game ain’t the same since I left out. Ooh you know we need ya, ooh you know we need ya. Right here is where we need ya, right here is where we need ya. Welcome back…

Public Service Announcement:

OK, here we go! The feel good story of the NBA. The Orlando Magic. Grant Hill. Anyone who remembers his four years at Duke, likes this cat. Two- time Charlie. Two titles. Two titles in a row. Played for another one. Best defensive player in the country. Chicks dig the long ball. Coaches dig defense. Let’s not get carried away. This dude played offense. There’s not much he didn’t do. The first player in ACC history to collect more than 1900 points, 700 rebounds, 400 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocked shots. His Airness didn’t do it. And there’s always the pass. The pass before the shot. We were in love with this cat before he ever suited up for an NBA game.

NBA Rookie the Year. All-Star team after All Star team. First rookie ever to lead an NBA All-Star fan balloting. Beat Shaq Daddy. All-NBA first team. Led the NBA in triple-doubles. Twice. Get the papers, get the papers. Gold Medal. 22 points. 9 boards. 7.3 dimes. 2 steals. First player since Larry Legend to average 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in a season. Nobody’s done it since. Nobody. Joined the Stilt and Elgin Baylor as the only players in NBA history to lead their teams in scoring, rebounding and assists more than once. Hill and Chamberlain are the only two players in league history to lead their teams in points, rebounds and assists per game three times. Then the ankle. Yickkkk. The ankle. Never really the same since. Had one year in there, but still. This guy was cut down in his prime. You hate to see it happen. Especially to a kid like this. The good news is he’s playing again. Playing well. Starting on the best team in the East. Winning ball games for the best team in the East.

The last minute of the game. The last minute of the Magic’s one basket win over the Trailblazers. Blazers up two. Stolen pass. Goes to the hizzy. Strong. Foul. Hits ‘em both. Tie ballgame. Two seconds left. It’s Showtime you bet. Saddle your ponies you bet. Buzzer beater baby! Grant Hill! Magic win! Magic win! Magic win! Welcome back you bet!

Peace out homies. Six Two and Even! josh q. public

You do realize that by writing this article on him, that you have jinxed him to have a typical Grant Hill season. Sadlyit never fails.
