The End of Hockey for Number 88?

I've just posted my opinion about the future of Eric Lindros over on my blog here

It looks like he may not be finding a team to lace-up for before the season starts, and I just wondered what you guys thought of this.  I know most people seem to hate him, but he is (or was) one of the real NHL characters.

Let me know what you think.

Yep quite right - meant to but forgot. I will really miss him. He is one of those player that you can just 'feel' on the ice without having to look out for his number. I know he can be trouble, and he hasn't given 100% over the last couple of seasons with the leafs and the stars, but perhaps those teams just weren't right for him?

He was foaming at the mouth to play for the Leafs when he signed a contract. He is NEVER healthy, as evidenced by the 39, 33 and 49 games played the past three seasons...he turns 35 in February, and he hasn't had a 90 point season since 98 99. Couple that with the cancer that he is in the locker room, and no team will pick him up for any kind of serious coin.

Very true - I've never known anyone to be so accident prone as him. Every game I seem to have seen him in over the last few years has ended up with him either concussed, or with something sprained/broken.

He was foaming at the mouth due to all of the concussions that he suffered while playing. Both Lindros borthers were very big but fragile players.

I think Soctt Stevens ended Lindros' hockey career years ago.

I think his career was over when he gagged sucking and blowing at the same time in the Finals against Detroit.

The problem with Lindros is that he always skated with his down. I fondly remember the day that the Penguins Darius Kasparitus saw this and just crushed Lindros with a viscious body check near the blue line. Lindros was dazed and had to leave. Had he learned to skate properly maybe he would have had a better and healthier career.

You should see my comment in the "tanking" discussion about when the Penguins "tanked" the end of the 83-84 season in order to beat the Devils for the rights to draft Mario.

Anytime the Flightless Ones one up the Devils it's a good thing.
