The Crying Game.

Brian Urlacher makes a living by violently hitting quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. But for a guy that does such a violent job, he sure does his fair share of crying. You would think that a 6'4", 260 pound linebacker would be able a little less sensitive to the media and other players, but Brian Urlacher surely is not.
Currently, Brian Urlacher has taken offense to some comments that Roy Williams made during an interview with the Detroit Free Press.
Roy Williams had this to say about the Bears defense, "...the world thinks the world of this defense like it’s the greatest defense of all time. They have good players, they have a good scheme, they have very good linebackers, but I’ll put this offense up against their defense any day."
Brian Urlacher, being Brian Urlacher, took a couple shots back at Roy. He claimed that the comments "amused" him and had this to say about the Lions offense last year, "Let me see, the first game they had six, which was, you know, pretty close to 40. If you add the seven to that, that’s 13. I’m sure by Game 5 or 6 they had it.”
Now, is it a good idea to give your opposing team "bulletin board material?" Probably not, but you have to consider the source. Roy Williams is known for saying some crazy stuff, but he is certainly not serious. Shortly after he said what he did about the Bears he had this to say about going out on dates, "I am cheap, I’m a cheap date. Get you some McDonalds, with some cheese on it and I’m just really cheap, man." The dude is a goofball. End of discussion. People like Brian Urlacher, need to treat Roy Williams more like Chad Johnson than Terrel Owens.
On a side note, didn't the Bears defense just get scorched by the Cowboys? Was Roy Williams that way off in what he said?
To further see that Williams is more like Chad Johnson than Terrel Owens, all you have to see is how Williams responded to Urlacher's rebuttal. "I think it’s all in good fun. I don’t ever get personal. He don’t ever get personal. Just having fun out there on the football field." He said all of this while wearing a Madden championship belt and claiming that he would be the bowling and cooking champ, also.
Brian, it is just Roy Williams goofing on you. Settle down big boy.
But this is not the first time that Brian Urlacher has got all bent out of shape, and it probably won't be the last.
Last year in the Bears run to the Super Bowl it would have been nearly impossible to read an interview with Urlacher where didn't claim that, in his opinion, the Bears were being disrespected. "It doesn't matter what anyone says, every game people find something wrong with our team, our defense, our quarterback." He also had this gem, "The media has been consistent all year long, people have been on our backs all year long, so that has been nice. At least they're consistently telling us how bad we are, so that's good. At least there hasn't been any in-between area. We're the worst 13-3 team of all time." Here's my shoulder Brian, let it all out.
Urlacher is one of the captains on the Bears and his whining was contagious. His head coach, Lovie Smith, got in on the act as well as several other players on the team.
Urlacher mentioned that Roy Williams says something every year, and the Lions lose every year. He found this “amusing.” I find it “amusing” to look back at his comment about not being respected, and then watch the Colts tear the Bears up. In fact it is quite “amusing” to watch the Bears lose every time they play an upper-tier team --Colts, Patriots, Chargers.
Urlacher's trail of tears does not end there, however. Urlacher also took offense to a couple of players on the San Diego Chargers --a team that “amusingly” beat the Bears in week one. At first Urlacher was none too pleased with a Nike commercial that LT had done that showed him tearing up the Bears defense. This is what Urlacher had to say about the commercial, "How did we do the last time we played them? How did he do that game? Look at the stats and see how he did."
I don't care too much about the past. I'm more concerned with the present, and after Urlacher's mini-crying session it was apparent that the Bears had lost and LT was responsible for both of the Chargers two touchdowns. Rough day, Brian?
Finally, Urlacher got into a little war of words with the Chargers linebacker, Shawne Merriman. Urlacher called Merriman's sack dance "stupid" and said he would never do anything like that. Of course Urlacher wouldn't do anything like that. Merriman does his sack dance after, you guessed it, a sack. Urlacher didn't have one sack all of last year. Not one.
And why go after only Merriman for doing a dance after a great play? I can't even begin to count how many people dance after touchdowns, sacks, or even first downs. It is not just Merriman. I guess whining about just one Charger wasn't enough for Urlacher. He had double the tears to get out that week.
To conclude, I think the best way to present this article would be to print it off and physically hand it to #54. If he reads a print version of the article, he could crumple up the paper and use it as a tissue --something he will most certainly need.
