The Coal Bowl!

Well it is a little over a month away. The renewal of the state clash. Not played that many times but to hear West Virginians talk it is on the same level as Ohio State - Michigan. Not me, I think its a bunch of over covered hype.

Marshall is in no way in WVU's league. The Mountianeers should pummel the Thundering Herd. With the game in Morgantown, there is no chance.

We can't even get the game on TV. They just set the start time yesterday and no national TV coverage exists. Maybe on some small local station....whoo hoo..

Was there any doubt over what to call the game. The Friends of Coal and the Coal Association jumped all over that one. Paying $100,000 for the sponsor rights.

I look for Steve Slaton and Pat White to light it up against a subpar Marshall defense that can't stop the lower C-USA teams. Slaton might score 6 td's in the opener. Both may easily go over 100 yards rushing and White might not even attempt 15 passes the entire game.

Nothing like coming out of the gates and getting blasted huh, Marshall.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Marshall just is not in the same league as WVU. The reason Ohio State and Michigan is such a good rivalry is because both teams are always great...I go to Clemson, and the Clemson, South Carolina is a pretty good rivalry, but I still would not put it in the same class as Ohio State, Michigan, although it is getting pretty good with both the tigers and gamecoks' programs becoming very good.

Same level as Ohio State / Michigan? I don't think so. There are very few games that can make that claim. USC / Notre Dame, Army / Navy, Alabama / Auburn, Colorado / Colorado State, maybe. Marshall / WVU? No.

You've got Colorado/Colorado State on there but no Texas/Oklahoma? No Florida State/Miami or Florida/Florida State? I think Texas/A&M used to be that kind of rivalry, too, but it's lost a lot of juice the last few years with the dropoff of A&M's team.

Colorado/Colorado State is on the same level as Virginia/Va Tech its a game that only matters to the people in that state. Also dont forget about the Worlds Largest Cocktail Party, another great rivalry bigtime game.

Why is everyone so high on West Virginia for this upcoming season. Ok, they had one good bowl game and play in a very weak Big East. But those two things should not add up to a national contender. You do, after all, need talent. And to be honest with you, I don't see much talent on WVU's football team.

West Virginia does have the talent to be considered that high and remember a lot of preseason picks has to do with what you did your last game. And to have 2 sophmores the caliber of White and Slaton. That's pretty good.

WVU is more hype than substance, I expect them to be derailed by some random Big East team early in the season and put an end to this big talk
