The Clemens Rules

Now that the dust has settled, (or should I say the Benjamin’s have fallen into place) to the tune of $29 million, (before taxes)…It’s time to step back and reexamine the whole "$4 million a month gig". Not at all bad if somebody can get it from some dumbass owner, now is it? By George, let’s just throw all our eggs in one basket…Or at least $26 million of them. Nobody ever, or will ever accuse the Big Boss Man of not spending money to win a World Championship…And for that, no matter what else anybody thinks about him, well, he should be commended for it! However, shelling out $4 Mill a month to some player that’s going to play every fourth or fifth day…Well, the thought behind that blows my mind. Is Georgie Boy panicking that the Pinstripes are scraping the bottom of the barrel? I don’t know if panicking is the right word here, but he’s not happy! Let’s be honest, the last time this guy was happy was when he won his last World Series title!

I guess he seems to think that there’s one more on the Rocket ship that landed in the Bronx on Sunday. At least, that’s what he’s hoping! Let’s be real here…The only way that Roger Clemens second stint in the Bronx will be a success is if the Yankees win the World Series this year. There’s a better chance of Ohio State beating Florida in something than this! Is it worth to sign a pitcher to a one-year $26 million deal? Who, incidentally thinks the season starts in the first week of June as opposed to the first week of April? Yeah, that whole Spring Training bit gets me every time, Rog! Look, these last couple of years with Roger Clemens has grown real old…Just like every single time the Yankees & Red Sox meet before August! Does the phrase who gives a shit mean anything to folks out there? Look, we all know how the story goes…Athlete RETIRES to spend time with family, athlete gets sick of being around the house so why not sign with the Houston Astros. By doing that one can pitch and yet be considered the "family man"…Gee, the best of both worlds, right? Although, when the Astros bat support doesn’t give the help that is needed and best friend Andy Pettite flies the coup for New York again, what are you to do? Although, last time I checked, (right after typing his last name, um, he wasn’t part of your family tree). Hey Roger, maybe retire and enjoy the family like you stated you wanted to back in 2003 instead of following Andy around the country side like a long lost puppy. Remember that World Series Game Five at Pro Player Stadium…The supposedly last time you would take the mound, yeah, that one! What happened? Does being around the fam. suck that bad?

Four million a month, I hope you don’t have to file for food stamps anytime soon, bud! However, why is this behavior accepted? Not announcing who will get or not get your services a month and a half into the season? I give a damn who he is! Year after year, showing everybody that you play by a different set of rules…Yeah, that’s right, isn’t it? Drawing all kinds of attention to yourself through the various media outlets, like they’re strippers working for your money. Although you say it takes you more time to get in shape…Well, if that’s the case perhaps this game has past you by then. Clemens has, (or is it had) ridiculously special privileges…A sign of disrespect! Not only knowing you’re above the rules, but having no issues about showing it time and time again! {Houston}Teammates said they hardly saw him -- almost as if he wasn't even part of the team during his Houston camoes. Roger should take more heat for all the special treatment he gets from teams. I agree with Boomer and think absolutely think it's disrespectful .Sure, the Yankee fans could give a flying **** about this as he’s some kind of a hero figure to them all…Although, they’d be singing a different tune if your rocket ship landed in Boston. All Bronx supporters see is another World Series ring…Here’s a new flash, it’s not going to happen! He’s not going to make like Mighty Mouse and come to save the day! For A-Whad is still going to disappear in October…So the only hub bub here should be the simply fact that Big George, well, you just found a new way to piss away $4 million dollars a month! Maybe next year you’ll have Roger for the whole season…Then again, Ohio State would have to beat Florida in an athletic competition for the likelihood of that shit to happen!

Vote in LastRowSports.com which asks the outcome of New York’s Old Rocket Ship that recently landed in the Bronx. We assure you that by voting in this poll you won’t stand to earn or lose, (depending on whether the glass is half full or empty) a cool $4 million a month…Before Uncle Sam gets a hold of you of course!

The Red Sox were actually Clemen's first choice, but they could only offer 18 million, because they already have 81 million tied up in a Triple A pitcher.

Better $80 mil for a "AAA pitcher" who will turn it around than $25 mil for a literal single-A pitcher who could work his way up to be a 5th starter some day.

I could give a rats ass where he went and the teams who wanted his services, (although I did know the Red Sox were in the mix). The entire thing with this guy is a big FREAKING joke over the past couple years!! What a great family man! I wonder what his dead mother thinks of him after she told him once and for all to end his career before she died?

Touche', AF! Got me there. A joke yes, but not as big a joke as mentioning his mother. Classless.

He deserves everything that comes his way! Practicaly all of us would listen to our mothers right before they die and grant them their wish!! Come on it's the least we can do, but no, not Roger! Always out for himself...Just how he wants it!!

Is it just me, or does anyone else not understand the outrage over the new Clemens deal? It IS unprecedented, it IS outrageous, however this is a mutually agreed upon deal, so presumably both sides feel satisfied they're getting their money's worth. Perhaps part of the impetus behind this deal is to instigate the very behavior WE as fans are demonstrating - talking about it!

All I'm saying is this is a yearly thing for him to do now...If you can't handle the responibilities that come with being a Major League Baseball player don't be one! Spring Training starts in Feb, there's 162 games on the schedule...And for 29 million don't you think he owes the teams that?

Clearly the team is OK with it.

OK, let's say hypothetically, Julio Lugo started saying "hey everyone, I want a HUGE raise, and I want to play whenever I feel like it", the best thing to happen would be that Lugo was openly laughed at. Clemens does this simply because he can, and people will listen, and pay him as well. What he owes the team is between himself and George Steinbrenner. I suspect the difference in opinion lies in the fact that I'm probably a good bit older than you, therefore outrage at anything doesn't come as easily. I was old enough to turn on a television set when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record...

Yeah - he gets the $28 Mil...but I understand that he will have to carry his own bags when the team travels.

Look, he's not the only one. Sammy flew private charters on road trips, wasn't even on the team plane. Kevin Brown's contract with the Dodgers allowed him to leave the team for family issues, i.e. daughter's graduation from DANCE class!!

Cal Ripken Jr so pissed off the Orioles in his last couple years they spent half a year with lawyers trying to get out of the contract.

I have no problem with Clemens not going on road trips if he's not pitching. He's a Hall of Famer and has earned the right. On the other hand, no one is more high maintenance than ARod, and he hasn't earned the right.
