The Allen Iverson Era - A Retrospect

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Allen Iverson to the Denver Nuggets today. Iverson, the Number 1 draft pick by the Sixers in 1996 was expected to deliver a championship to Philadelphia. Unfortunately, he did not, coming closest in 2001 with an appearance in that year's NBA Finals.

Below is the yearly record for the Sixers during the Allen Iverson era.

Season W L
96-97 22 60
97-98 31 51
98-99 28 22
99-00 49 33
00-01 56 26
01-02 43 38
02-03 48 34
03-04 33 49
04-05 43 39
05-06 38 44
06-07 5 19
TOTAL 396 415

It must be noted that Iverson did not play in every game during these past 10 years. However, he played in over 90% of them. And his personal win-loss record is below .500 as well.

Anyway, an era ends in Philadelphia, one that began with great expectations, but only to see things come up short.

Its so Ironic that the wolves were once in the trade but screwed it up, and that Joe Smith was involved in the trade for AI

How hard would it have been to give them Davis, Foye, a first round pick, and anyone else; someone like Hassel, Blount, Jaric, James...

Does this open the doors for a KG trade?

no, unless phoenix would give us barbosa and Marion/Stoudamare; or Chi would give us Thomas and a group of other players, preferably expiring contracts or young players

Somebody needs to tell Iverson that in Denver Anthony is the man, and the game is played with one ball. Can't wait to see this mess.

I think this article is way off base. The Sixers never gave Iverson a Pippen type player. Iverson could not beat Kobe and Shaq with freakin Garth Snow. Iverson made his statment when he crossed over Jordan. How many people have enough skill to do that? Iverson is a top 20 player all time. Nuff Said.

Top 20? Really? MJ, Bird, Johnson, Chamberlain, KG, Shaq, Barkley, Malone, Russell, Bryant, Pippen, Robertson, Walton, Mikan, Abdul-Jabbar, Fraizer, McKahle, Erving, then I think Wade and LeBron are better. Those are 20 players that are pretty dang undeniably better than him. He isn't top 20, and may not be top 30

Id even go as far to say he'd barely be in the top 50, if at all.
