The All-Star Game: an exercise in stupidity

Growing up, I always looked forward to the All-Star Game. Why? Being an A's fan in New York State meant never seeing them on TV, especially when the team tended to suck real bad.
I still remember cheering for Jeff Newman in 1979 like he was a god. Did he deserve to be there? Maybe not but to me, it never mattered. So what happened since? I never watch the All-Star Game. Why? Because the A's still get that ONE player each year regardless of how good the team is.
That's bullshit, plain and simple. Really it points out what a joke the game is.
The All-Star managers are homers who bring their players and the fans of the rich teams flood the ballot boxes. Sure a lot of these guys get to go but it's the same crap each year. And at the end of the day, it is a boring exhibition game.
Oh, it decides who gets home field for the World Series? Big deal. If you can't win a road game or two in World Series, you don't deserve to be there to begin with. So really why bother with it? You got me. One thing is for sure. Dan Haren is a lot better than Jeff Newman was. But I get to see Haren a lot more.
This was a re-post from my blog, The Idiot Chronicles.
