"We Believe" The San Antonio Spurs had their backs against the wall in perhaps one of the many surprises of the NBA Finals. They were down 3-1 against the Dallas Mavericks. However, in support of their team, numerous Spurs fans waved a banner and wore t-shirts with the words "We Believe" on them. Not only am I surprised that there are Spurs fans, I am surprised there are vocal, emotional, and passionate fans. You couldn't pay me to be a Spurs fan. People may just care for the end result and that is winning, but the team is full of lifeless statues and two somewhat entertaining players in Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. Considering the Spurs are practically basketball news buzz kill, I am afraid I can only cringe (or maybe fall asleep) every time I think of this slogan.
We Are All Witnesses" After failing to make the playoffs the last two seasons, Lebron James was determined to not only get there but make some noise. Throughout the playoffs, James was phenomenal with an assortment of performances that we were all "witness" to. He even caught the attention of friend Gilbert Arenas who remarked about Lebron's achievements and slogan in an interview. Though Lebron was making us witnesses to his achievements, it seems like he's getting ahead of himself considering the other guy in his draft, Dwayne Wade, won a championship by literally carrying his team. But don't worry, Cleveland fans. Lebron will have his shots in the future, and fortunately, for us, we will all be witness to them.
"We Are All Nowitznesses/I Am A Nowitzness" After saving his team from a 4-3 defeat against the Spurs, Dirk Nowitzski increased his stock value. Nearly every fan and sportscaster spoke of the new and improved Dirk who thought to drive first then shoot first. His flashes of greatness led to people calling themselves Nowitznesses. This shirt just proved that people love winners. The people who jumped on the bandwagon and picked the Mavericks to win now know that they pulled the trigger way too early. Dirk didn't show up every game in the finals and wasn't the leader the team needed when it mattered the most. Well, at least someone made some money off these shirts.
