The "Two First Name" All-Time Team 25 Man Roster

17
Vote

by Manuel Estillez

There hasn't been any "All-Time teams" lately, so I figured it's time I plop one out there...

The Roster Rules

Make a 25 man all-time baseball team out of players that have last names that are commonly used as first names in North American Society.

It must match exactly: Al Michael is eligible, Al Michaels is not. Robin Robert is eligible, Robin Roberts is not. See the difference?

Example - Lee May is eligible, Willie Mays is not.

Also, a last name like "Young" which is a common name in Chinese culture but not in North American culture is not eligible (bye, bye Cy and Delmon). A name like "Lee", popular in China and North America is eligible!

A last name like "Robinson" is acceptable (because I needed another 3rd baseman and I love Frank) - see: Robinson Crusoe!

Also eligible (because catcher was the hardest position to fill): "Carter" - as in Carter Braxton, who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Meet the...

Note: I COULD have made the team out of JUST Hall of Famers if I wanted to...

I actually complied the names on a scrap piece of paper months ago and lost it, fearing it trashed by one of my kids. I found it this morning tucked away neatly in one of my (in)famous "to do" folders... Next thing "To do" - consolidate my "To Do" folders...

Would Joe Torre count? TORRIE is a girl's first name, and you could easily take someone off that list for managers.

I'll tell Robinson Cano you don't like his first name. Like I said, find me another third baseman. And good luck.

Is Anderson a first name? I guess any name is a first name somewhere. I also agree Robinson isn't a first name and you can tell Robinson Cano if you know him.
