Thank You, Detroit, for Ruining the Playoffs

I am not a huge fan of the NBA. I would much rather watch a College Basketball game than a traveling filled NBA game. With that said, my interest in the NBA was growing exponentially during these playoffs.
With the Clippers making it and then advancing to the second round, Kobe's failed attempt at unselfish play, and the collective coming out parties of the 2003 Draft picks (minus Darko, naturally), the 2006 NBA Playoffs had all the genital-grabbing fun one could ask for.
That is, until Sunday.
As I was licking my chops over the possibility of a LeBron-Flash Eastern Conference Finals, I utterly ignored the fact that Bron-Bron was going up against the Detroit Pistons, a team that I predicted would win it all.
And then, the Pistons...ruined...everything.
This wasn't about being the best team anymore. This was about seeing a battle of the best young players in the league. This was about a rematch of that mind-blowing game back on April 1--not just one rematch, but possibly seven of them. This was about basketball's rebirth.
This was supposed to be a return to the days of Bird vs. Magic. Nothing could have been better for the sport than seven more April 1 games.
I'm certainly not saying that the Playoffs now are doomed. It will be interesting to see if D-Wade can do what LeBron couldn't and take down the mighty Pistons. It certainly will be interesting to see if Shaq can withstand the Wallaces for probably seven games.
But there's just something that's now missing, and it's more than just No. 23 (no, not that one). It's a certain glamour aspect of it.
Thus, I give thanks to the Pistons for bringing my hopes, dreams and budding interest in the NBA to a screeching halt for at least one more season. Thank you, Detroit.
