Thank God for ESPN

What a wonderful time for sports. The Stanley Cup began yesterday, the NBA Finals begin Thursday, The World Cup begins Friday, MLB is in full swing, and if you are one of the few people that actually care about the French Open or college baseball/softball then you can indulge in that too. Where does anyone turn to quench their thirst for everything sports? ESPN, even if it is kind of weird that NFL Live comes on everyday...in the summer.
As hard as it is to believe, ESPN isn't always perfect. Actually,a lot of times it isn't even good. Sometimes it is compltely ridiculous. Today has provded a prime example of how incredibly absurd ESPN's coverage can be.
They are televising and analyzing every single pitch of Roger Clemens' first start of the season since deciding to play for the Houston Astros again. I can see why this would be a big deal, seeing as Roger is one of the greatest pitchers of all time, but this is a Minor League baseball game. He is pitching for the single A Lexington Legends. Every pitched he shows is televised and extensively analyzed a handful of ESPN MLB analysts. My question is this: Who the fuck cares?
Its not real baseball. He's pitching against players that have never made it to the Major Leagues, most of who will probably never make it. Nobody will ever care what he did at this level. It will never go into any record books. No one will ever rememeber it. It doesn't matter. Whether he pitches a perfect game or gets rocked for 10 runs it is not going to have any bearing on how he will perform this season. This is one of the most pointless things ever to be aired in the history of televised sports. Who cares what he is going to throw in a 2-1 count against John Doe who plays for the Neverland Young Boys in Tights?
Yes, he is one of the greatest pitchers of all time, but this is just stupid. Would they air Kobe Bryant playing in the NBDL? Andy Roddick playing in an amatuer tournament? At least Ricky Williams playing in the CFL is somewhat intriguing. Do they not have anything better to show? As much as it pains me to say it, I was more interested in their live cut-ins to Michelle Wie trying to qualify yesterday than this stupid bullshit. Maybe this would be fun to watch if he was drunk, or instead of pitching against the other minor leaguers he was re-enacting his old squabbles with Mike Piazza. Maybe this would be worth watching if it was a real game.
Oh my God, He finished with six strikeouts!!!! Can you believe it?
Does ESPN have nothing better to show? I might want to be careful what I wish for- the X-Games might come on.
