In the "People who throw in their two cents in after everything is said and done" department, the great Whoopi (no last name needed) decided to help explain the reasoning behind Ron Mexico's misguided infatuation with doggie bloodsport. Here's what she said according to the Associated Press.
Goldberg said that "from where he comes from" in the South, dogfighting isn't that unusual. "It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico," she said. "There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country." For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg said, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges. "I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn't appreciate," she said.
Yeah, I've lived in the south for over 20 years with most of it being in Virginia and I haven't seen one canine battle royale. In the AP piece, it is stated that Whoopi was not going to skirt controversy. But they could've also said that she'd probably wait until the coast is clear before saying anything "controversial". Whatta way to jump out on that ledge, Whoopi!
