The Boston Red Sox stranded 11 runners today in a 2 to one loss against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox fifth starter Julian Tavarez went to the mound today saying he felt no pain in his leg after his last outing and it showed. He pitched well enough to get a win but the Sox didn’t give him the necessary support to do so.
Ranger pitcher Kameron Loe pitched as good as Taveraz allowing one less hit in an extra third of work. Loe had another solid start and picked up his fourth consecutive win while Tavarez lost for the second time in a row.
Texas only scored one earned run but won on Frank Catalanotto’s unearned score. Brad Wilkerson knocked in the only other run for the visitors, and Kenny Lofton, Ramon Vazquez and Michael Young all had two hit games for the Rangers, who currently sit in fourth in the American League West only 16.5 games behind the Angels.
Kevin Youkilis knocked home the only Red Sox run of the day and the Red Sox made some critical errors and could not take advantage of runners in scoring position.
Sox rookie center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was hitless in his second MLB game, and David Ortiz and Eric Hinske also went hitless for the home team.
The Red Sox send Kason Gabbard to the mound tomorrow and will also put Mike Lowell back in the lineup as they look to stop the two game losing skid against Kevin Millwood, first pitch is scheduled for just after seven o’clock.
