Vladimir Guerrero's 4-4 performance was the cornerstone for a 13 hit attack as the Angels downed the Rangers for the second night in a row.
Perhaps Buck Showalter had the right idea last season when he intentionally walked Vlad whenever anyone was on base. Tonight Vlad impaled the Rangers with a home run, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
Ian Kinsler continued his strong start going 1 for 2 with another home run, and RBI, and 2 runs scored. At this rate, the Rangers better think about moving him from the 9 hole.
Kelvim Escobar (1-0, 3.38) went 5 1/3 innings for the win giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 4, but his 5 walks are a concern. Without better control, he could have trouble down the road. Another error, this one by Howie Kendrick did not help as it allowed a run to score in the 5th. The Angels bullpen came through again as the duo of Speier and Shields threw 3 1/3 innings with no ER, 4 Ks, and only 1 walk.
Vicente Padilla (0-1 11.57) allowed 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss for the Rangers. He gave up 9 hits and 3 walks to compliment his solo strike out. The bullpen didn't fare much better giving up 2 runs and no strike outs over the final 3 1/3 innings. Once again errors cost the Rangers as they managed to flub 2 more times.
On the night, the Angels improved to 2-0 while the Rangers dropped to 0-2.
