Tex Shirley

Born on April 25, 1918 in Birthright, Texas, Tex Shirley (Alvis Newman Shirley) played for the Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 5 year career. Shirley broke into the bigs on September 6, 1941 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.15 ERA in 80.1 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Tex Shirley's best season was 1945, when he posted a 3.63 ERA and struck out 77 batters.
