FIRST IN A SERIES
The Philadelphia Phillies are only ten losses away from 10,000 losses in franchise history. No professional sports frachise in North America has ever surpassed this threshold. This, my friends, is history in the making.
The Philadelphia Phillies franchise dates back to 1883. During the next 124+ years, the club achieved victory in 8,799 games. Sadly, the frachise has lost 9,990 games as well. This means that the Phillies have to go on a 1,191 game winning streak just to make it to .500. Or in other words, they need to go undefeated over the next seven plus seasons just to get back to breaking even.
The Phillies, during their history, has made five World Series appearances. Those appearances occurred in 1915, 1950, 1980, 1983 and 1993. Of those five appearcnes, only one, in 1980, earned the Phillies the right to call themselves World Champions.
This series will continue on until the Phillies reach that magic 10,000th loss mark. The series will include some history on the club, some insight on the current team, and some opinion from a fan's prespective. I do hope that you will enjoy this series as the Phillies slowly limp toward infamy.
